You guys ever think maybe Margarito and his handlers knew he didn't have much left before the Mosley fight, and perhaps thats why they tried to cheat with the funny wraps? He really looked bad in the actual fight, and now he's moved up in weight... Obviously this is just speculation (and I'm not trying to come up with excuses for him or justify the wraps in any way)... Whatcha think?
Makes no sense, Margarito was coming off a destruction over Golden Johnson, Kermit Cintron, and had just beaten down Miguel Cotto. He was at the apex of his career. I don't know why Margarito looked so bad in the fight itself, but I dare anyone to tell me that the drama he was put through prior to the walk in didn't have some psychological effect.
I am a big big slammer of Margarito, for his cheating act and all. Still, I've started (re)watching some of his fights. Boy, was he entretaining. Very very entretaining. He wasn't shot. Mosley with his power was a bad missmatch. Still... the cement fists... had he had those one... I suspect they would have weakened Mosley, enough so by the later rounds, he'd be gassed and ready to go.
PFG, would you like to educate the board on what exactly was found in Margarito's wraps? I'll give you a clue...it wasn't cement. Seeing as though you've now watched Antonio Margarito fight a fair few times, you're in no better position to confirm that his performance against Mosley was ponderous even my his standards.
For me the answer pretty simple. His mind was obviously thrown from the fact he had been caught out prior to the bout but the main factor was his inability to handle shane's handspeed couple with power and the fact his defence was basically his chin at some time with the amount of flush shots he was taking that was going to catch up with him. I certainly don't think Margo was shot at the time. I wouldn't be surprised if he is shot now. With the beating he took from mosley and his inactivity put together i certainly think it is likely he will be past it
Worst beating I've ever seen. That fight more than any other proved his chin, because he was getting hit with knockout blows regularly before he eventually folded.
He was exposed as a disgraceful cheat. Entertaining yes, but I would be entertaining if I was hitting pro boxers with cement in my gloves. I am certain that he loaded his gloves against Cotto, thus ruining his career. Cotto will never be the same after that fight.
I immediately switch off when posters talk about cement. It's a tell tale sign that the poster isn't properly informed on the facts.
It's a turn of phrase. I know it wasn't cement for ****'s sake. I know it was plaster of Paris, :roflatsch
I think there were a few 'Margarito's chin overrated' threads surfacing after the fight was eventually stopped. Mayweather's legs gave way after two overhand rights from Shane the other day. Margarito was taking them in every round. I'm of the opinion that it wasn't cement or any other illegal substance in his wrapping that got him to the world title, it was his ability to take punishment.
I think the plaster in the wraps is how Margarito became a threat at welterweight in the first place.
For what reason are you so certain that Margarito was loaded with "cement" for the Miguel Cotto fight? Sure, there's a possibility he could have been, but my theory is that your only certain of it because you want to be certain. Were you a fan of Antonio prior to the controversy?
Any one who mentions cement obviously knows that Margarito didnt have a cement mixer in his changing room! I think they just assume people know what they mean. I would have thought most people did. If he had a cement mixer in his dressing room spinning away it wouldnt have taken Nazeem to spot it...
