He had no other qualities huh? If the "great" ant "talented" fighters had a tenth of Mayorga's heart/toughness, boxing would be the biggest thing going....gimme one Mayorga over 10 Mayweathers any day o' the week..

Agreed. he was more wild than skillful but he was always exciting to watch and completely unpredictable. You just never knew what was going to happen when he fought.

I can understand that he knocked Forrest the first time because he had a decent punch and it can happen to anyone. How the hell he won a decision against Forrest amazed me in the 2nd fight!

I don't think his chin was ever the same post-Trinidad.

I don't care how great your chin is (and Mayorga's was great), you can't take the amount of bombs he did from a huge puncher like Tito without it having a lasting effect. He didn't suddenly develop a glass jaw or anything but I think punches noticably affected him more after this fight.

If Margarito gets his license back (and I hope he doesn't) I think we might see a similar thing happen with him. Between the accumulation of punishment he's taken over the course of his career and the beating Shane gave him, I think he might be ko'd if he faces an elite fighter again.

Im not saying he is not entertaining i love watching him fight. I remember the Trinidad-Mayorga fight like it was yesterday. I always watched all these PPV fights with my fam. I think thats the first Mayorga fight i watched with them.
However as far as being elite i dont think he ever had the skills to do it.

exactly!! That was crazy. If they were to fight 10 times. I would say if it went to decisions 10 times out of 10 the winner should be Forrest.

Forrest was scared as hell. Mayorga beckoned him to hit him with his best punch. Forrest cracked him and Mayorga didnt even flinch. He then proceeded to beat Forrest around the head like he was his dad. He tried the same trick vs Tito and got wobbled when Tito cracked him a second time. You should see what he done to 6 heads Lewis that was pretty amusing.

Mayorga should have stayed at welter, and had a better team behind him. He should have been more disciplined especially his diet and smoking habit.

Mayorga got by on heart, chin, power and balls....Boxing is gonna miss him. Boxing needs guys like him and Miranda....classless loud mouths who always come to fight...may not be elite but at least you know you're always gonna get your money's worth.
