At the beginning of the HBO broadcast, Lampley cites Mayorga about how he's in shape now after 14 weeks training, as opposed to when he fought Hoya (" i didn't train right and needed diuretics") and Trinidad ( "i was in a car crash before the fight"). My question about the Hoya fiasco is why a fighter who didn't prepare right would threathen a few days before the fight his promotor ( king) of pulling out of if he didn't receive plus 1 million $ than agreed ?? Isn't that an admission of bribery for throwing a fight ?
The point is Mayorga believed to be in a position of power; you need that if you ask others to make concessions; how can he believe it when he didn't even train right ?
Well he was the champion so he had some sort of power position but the money maker was DLH so....Anyway he trained right,it's just he couldn't train to make the weight right
He said some similar **** about Trinidad. That he didn't train, car crash, got arrested or some ****. Bottom line is he shouldn't have fought either of them if he was not fully prepared.
Where he lives he could've been floating on the Trinidad money the rest of his life. Why does he gotta get another multimillion dollar fight in Hoya and supposedly not train properly again? One million goes a long long way in Nicaragua. If you don't train properly you get knocked out. Not Trinidad's fault, not Hoya's, this fault lies squarely on Mayorga.
Exactly. Sturm came prepared in the shape of his life vs Hoya, and used it to springboard his career. Fighting in front of the world constitute the opportunity of a lifetime; even if one loses, one's career can take off if the showing was good. Mayo chose to throw it all away. His promotor was King...
i could have told you this without him admitting to it.... you can just watch the tito fight and see that, and he probably wanted to bail in the hoya fight BECAUSE HE KNEW he wasnt in the kind of shape he should be in. and for the people saying NO... ummmm... ok, when you have to take an illegal supliment to even MAKE 154lb weight limit... its OBVIOUS you didnt train the way you should have.... a blind man could see that. for the tito fight.... he was huffing and puffing in like the 3rd round when roy commented he was tired... it was obvious he wasnt in the kind of shape he was in for the mosley fight, which is the best shape hes been in since spinks hands down... i cant even believe there are people who will argue this. thats why when i saw him look like he did in training and sparring for THIS fight... i got into the fight more. Although i would never stop liking him, the way he showed up in the tito and hoya fights made me lose a little respect for him because he didnt come with his all, he FOUGHT with his all... but didnt prepare with his all. This fight, i believe him when he says he trained hard... i still think he shouldnt have ballooned up to 170 but one step at a time i guess... Unfortunatly its too little too late, his punch resistance isnt what it used to be, and he needs a very high one to fight the way he does.... hes 35 now and the miles will show on him, hard training or not..... but in terms of coming in shape, shane beat a much better mayorga then eather tito or hoya, i give tito big props as mayorga still had his chin then... tito just took that something away from mayorga and it will never be the same.
