Spinks wasn't intimidated or running, because that's how he always fights. He doesn't punch hard at all and everyone knows this. Expecting him to hurt guys and out slug them would be foolish, because he simply can't do it. The rules of boxing allow for different styles whether it's slugging, being purely offensive, defensive, or using the sweet science.

When did boxing become a tough man contest? Whitaker and Pep would have lost most of the fights they had going by what you're trying to say. Spinks won by outboxing Mayorga. he couldn't out slug a slugger because he doesn't have the ability to and that's why he made it into a boxing match. Boxing is first and foremost a sport and there are different ways to win in any sport.

Something fishy was going down that night. I remember Mayorga dropping Spinks 5-6 times and all where ruled slips. Atleast 2 where legit ****ing KDs.

I believe it was a right hand to the rib cage that sent Spinks tumbling down, when they were against the ropes. Very clear.

Spinks won more rounds. But the referee was awful...Mayorga had fight turning moments, knockdowns, and offensive bursts that were stymied.

The end result, based on what happened over the 12 rounds in the ring, was fair. The action in the ring was not.

Sorry dude, but I don't understand how a guy who is KD twice, and dives to the canvass to AVOID FIGHTING can win, unless the scorecard was already written out before the fight.

Did you guys see how much of a deal Don King Promotions made about Spinks meeting up with his destiniy by winning becoming a champion. They even had Leon Spinks on ringside, and had this beautiful sob video for Cory Stinks. No doubt Don King wanted Stinks to win, and he made sure he did, with the horrible judging, and reffing.

    1. Don King fight.
    2. Hyping crappy Stinks
    3. Sad story about Stinks, with mother dying, and needing to fulfill his destiny and become champion.
    4. His uncle is on ringside, and is part of the hyping.
    5. Bad judging.
    6. Horrible reffing.
    7. Spinks did not do enough to dethrone Champion.

That fight had "ROBBERY" written all over it.

I remember this fight, mayorga was show-boating alot during early rounds until he got frustrated of some of spinks' move.

spink was doing "matrix", that is intentionally falling to the ground whenever mayorga tries to hit him with a full swing. I was asking myseld that time, "**** is that legal?,

and the funny thing about it, the ref repeatedly called a Slip whenever spinks does that, when in fact he did it intentionally as evidenced by repeatition of that move. I can't believe that is legal

PS: I didn't score the fight

haha, i remember that one. Mayorga and his corner was sick of spinks' intentional falling to the canvass, so what mayorga did was time him, hit him while he was doing that "falling" thing, and when spinks tried to pull one, mayorga just hit him (landed on the body), hoping to be called for a knockdown. Sad thing is, the ref did not call it. Clever Idea but unsuccessful
