He showed mad chin, he showed good speed, composure, and power. I think Mayorga can hang with the top guys at 154.
Yea definitly. He should go for a title at 154 so he has a belt which would then help him getting a big money fight.
He would only be hurting himself in trying to make 154. I wouldn't mind seeing Floyd move up and fight him at 154 if he gets by Hatton and Cotto. It wouldn't do much for his legacy but couldn't hurt us fans by Mayweather being talked into such a fight. I like Mayorga and hope he continues to win
I think he could make 154 easy. It's just a matter of training hard. So by him needing to make 154 might be an advantage as he would ne to train harder. I was impressed with Mayorga's speed at 164, I think 154 suits him better.
He beat a shot and fat version of Vargas, proved he is still tough, still got good chin and good power but other than that not much. He stands no chance against elites, Roman Karmazin would beat him up badly.
It is kinda funny that Mayorga who is a fighter who dosn't follow the rules, who doesn't train properly and abuses his body by drinking and smoking and on top of that is not a very skillful boxer still can defeat elite boxers who have more talent than him, whether they are in their prime or not. BTW I was surprised to see him jabbing and going the distance. Mayorga's hand speed is underrated big time.
I agree. He goes against conventional wisdom, even smoking on the way to a fight and even if he doesn't win, he makes the fight entertaining. I wonder what kind of fighter he'd be if had trained properly from the beginning.
If Mayorga had had good training/coaches from the very beginning he would have been a force for at least 5 years, maybe more....who knows. Just imagine for a second the Mayorga who fought Forest but a better version...more skillful, more into boxing, more discipline etc etc etc.
Handspeed def underrated. I dont think he really smokes, he is just a showoff. He trains hard for fights, has rather good stamina, very good chin although it deteriorated after Tito and DLH beat him up. He has very good power which forced his opponents to be fight cautiously. He is dangerous for sure but Vargas was his last hurrah unless he dights another washup Zab Judah.
He does smoke big time and drink. I have some friends who know him and have seen him doing it. He trains hard, but he is not consisten with or during his training. He's the type of guy who thinks that what he does is OK.....and **** the rest.
He aint shot yet, I agree, but, kinda like Vargas, as soon as he faces an elite fighter, or even a good one, he will lose.
