There is no point, but Mayorga is a big star in the USA and Taylor is guaranteed to beat him. Taylor makes money and gets back on a winning track, the fans watch it and start believing in Taylor again because he beat a NAME, the networks make some money because the fans know both names and watch the fight, the networks give Taylor a recompense after he was a good sport and a brave fellow who fought Pavlik straight away and was magnanimous in defeat, and all is good! Business as usual.

It can be a good comeback fight for Taylor.

Mayorga is a name. He'll hype the fight. Be sure to lose and brutally. They hope he doesn't spring an upset because if he does JT will look stupid.

It's silly fight but then I'd prefer to see it then some unknown with a **** record.

This fight would be a disgrace. But sadly it wouldn't surprise me coming from Taylor.

Mayorga belongs at Welterweight or Jr Welterweight. He should fight Karmazin maybe, or Ouma.....that would actually be pretty interesting. What about a Forrest rematch. Mayorga vs the loser of Margo/Cintron maybe. Cotto vs Mayorga or even Gomez vs Mayorga.....WHY THE **** AREN'T I THE PROMOTER!!!!!!!!!1

Taylor could have been fighting Kessler, Bute, Mundine, the winner of the eliminator between Inkin and Froch, Bika, Miranda, Lacy or Green. Some might be considered a step too far in his first fight at 168 after two straight loses, but Lacy or Green would have been acceptable and would have ticked all the right boxes. Mayorga is a worse opponent than Joppy because Joppy at least was a faded middleweight. Mayorga is a very faded welterweight.

this is a disgrace. if it does happen i hope mayorga clean clocks taylor, just on principle for agreeing to take the fight.

surely there are legit SMW's taylor can look good against. yusef mack maybe.

i agree, but mayorga? jesus christ.

    take on manfredo at least.

though risk/reward wise, mayorga is a logical decision for his camp. very winnable fight against a faded welter, who brings in viewers and cash.

    Are you for ****ing real?

    Hopkins
    Hopkins
    Winky
    Ouma
    Spinks
    Pavlik
    Pavlik

Thats his last 7 fights. I can't think of another fighter on the planet who deserves an easier fight than Jermaine Taylor, and i don't even like the guy.

Before we criticise Taylor too much, let's not forget that Cotto is planning to fight Mayorga too!:patsch

Only way Taylor can get away with fighting Mayorga is if he fights Kessler or Bute later on in the year, I think.
