Would have been a great fight a good few years back but even now im still intrigued, maybe its cos of the fact that both are shot as each other. Based on their last fights against Oscar/Shane im going to have to go with mayorga. Thats taking into consideration that I think Vargas body wont be ready to step into the ring after loosing all that weight, cant be too good for him. Vargas also gets hit too often, even more often these days and his beard isnt as tough as it was before. Mayorga has also taken some damage but I think that clean left hook by Oscar would have taken anyone out followed by that flurry.
Both are intriguing to me. Tito-Jones is guaranteed knockout and vargas-mayorga is guaranteed brawl by 2 of the craziest personalities in boxing. To answer your question though, Jones-Tito.
Vargas is shot, but Mayorga is just a little past-it. You also have to take into account Vargas' health problems and the fact that this is his last fight no matter what, which means he is not extremely hungry to win. Mayorga still wants money fights in the future, has enough power to KO Vargas, and will easily connect those big right hands on him, since his reflexes are terrible at this point. Mayorga KO5.
Its a draw.Pointless is pointless. But at least Mayorga-Vargas will be entertaining. Jones will, as usual, stink the joint out.
you'll be on the calzaghe hype train when he signs to fight old man popkins. :yep you've already admitted this in a past thread.
You should not be intrigued or even interested by a non-boxing brawl on the making. Vargas always indicated that his aggressiveness is way beyond what one could call ordinary ( non-pathological) and Mayorga is plain and simply a street thug. Predicting the outcome or putting Vcash on this one is as wild as tryin to make out what's goin to happen in the hood's dark alley between that homeless junky and his drunk arch-enemy when they take each other blind-folded... It makes no boxing sense.
i'm not disputing that for a moment jack, just questioning the point of these fights when you consider how past it these 4 boys are.
Is this one supposed to have hidden messages cause I can't decode it? Mayorga can't throw a right hand but that Jason hatchet you lately compared to, and he can't box or fight on the back foot as Hoya proved May 2006. Forrest and Spinks are polished fighters and you say that they are in there for the taking so why does Mayorga go to Vargas? I also can't believe that you believe that Tito can take the 168 pound division by any means, and that is a compliment to you, Jack.
Why would any boxing fan complain about this fight or call it pointless??? The heavyweight title is POINTLESS. Calzaghe's perfect record against tomato cans and hyped up wannabes is POINTLESS. Having 7 championship belts per division is POINTLESS. Having two colorful personalities with balls of steel fight toe to toe is a throwback to what made boxing great. There was a time when fighters fought not just for ABC title belts, but for pride of being "the man", and pride of being the "toughest sob alive"... Vargas and Mayorga are tough, never back down, and go out on their shields...To complain about this fight is ridiculous. Sure Vargas is shot, and Mayorga fights with less skill then I did at age 12, but they have power, the ability to get up after being knocked down, and legitimately hate each other... This is everything that makes boxing exciting...a truely toss-up fight where nobody has a clue what will happen (apart from it being a slugfest), two amazingly colorful personalities who argue and talk trash every chance they get, and two fighters who on any given night can be one of the best in the fight game. Respect great champions and former champions. Moreover, respect men who are willing to go to war for your entertainment. Pointless? That question was pointless.
I think Vernon was not well with his left arm in the first fight but was genuinely hammered down - he beat a Mayorga replica in Tata Baldomir recently so I don't know on which grounds you say that Mayorga would do it again... Cory can't fight standing still and he didn't run for dear life againt Jermain so why would he against Mayorga? - Ricardo doesn't stink that bad and he's not that ugly ( jokin). Tito is 34 years old and is fighting for the first time above 160 and since 2004, so I would be surprised if he can hold on to one above-average pace against any given active top SMW.
If you saw the Mayorga-Spinks fight, you'd see he was legitimately running for his life... Spinks was terrified of Mayorga, and hit the mat about 7 times on "slips". There is no way that all of them were slips... Mayorga was also deducted points for hitting after the bell when the bell rang mid-combination. It was a terribly officiated fight, and Cory STINKS is the biggest pansy in boxing.
I admit I didn't see that fight and that it's understandable to use terms as Cory "Stinks" or "Stinky" Wright. But that doesn't mean I have to find Ricardo Mayorga likeable and since I don't, I wouldn't spend money on a Spinks-Mayorga fight even if it was for a WBC-IBF-WBA WW unification. I think that Ricardo is appreciated for his "pleasin" performances such as with the likes of Tito and Cory is underrated for his "unpleasin" performances such as with the likes of Taylor... It's obvious that that has nothing to do with either fighter's real caliber but I respect that point of view all the same, actually, who am I not to respect whatever is said or written by others any way?
