Just rewatched the Mayorga vs Trinidad fight. I forgot how great that fight was and how much more competitive Mayorga was than I remembered. Mayorga took enough powershots from Trinidad to knock out a horse and yet he managed to come back time and again to give as good as he got. Really amazes me, especially after the fifth round, how Mayorga would be totally spent and yet come back and get back in the fight with deadly blows to Tito's head and ears. Mayorga had the heart of a lion! :good This content is protected
Man, I can't tell you how tense it was for me early on. Tito back after years off, Mayorga STILL somewhat dangerous. I won't deny tito getting caught clean didn't run in my mind. But as the fight when on, it was all excitement seeing Tito completely outbox, outsmart, outfight and him to end with the KO. Tito always brought electricity to his fights!
Gettha****outahere with that gay ****. At least admit it was a great fight between two blood and guts warriors! :bbb:bbb:bbb
Really was a top fight. I remember watching it the first time drunk and just loving it. I also was super impressed with how Tito looked after the lay off and thought he would be a force again. Watched it again about 2 weeks later, sober now. Still an all action war but saw that Tito wasnt amazing as I thought he had been, still thought he could of beat Winky though. Was way off. The bravado by Mayorga was astounding, who the **** lets Tito hit them with his left hook? Smoger was a good ref to have for that fight also.
Mayorga was on his feet by sheer nerve juice and stubborn will. Trinidad ripped the hell out of Mayorga with hellish head shots throughout the fifth round and Mayorga wouldn't fall. Yes, in the end it was a body shot to do him in but I think its cuz Mayorga had nothing left. Mayorga came in prepared for Tito's left hook but not for his right hand. Though he took many left hooks he seems to know how to turn his head to minimize impact. He would always get stunned and have to back away from the rights.
Papa Tito admitted he wrapped Tito's hands in a way that controvened the rules of some commission. He said that he did not know it was the wrong way, if he was getting away with it who could blame him. It was in a couple of articles, in an interview in particular that I cant remember where I read. I dont know he always had his hands wrapped illegal or not, i mean he fought in the U.S a ton where they get checked and signed off by officials.
i wanted mayorga to win that fight so bad back then. really amazed he took all those shots from tito and kept coming back, before getting put down for good with a body shot.
Yes, but Tito was an even bigger killer at 147. It would have been worse for him there. As to the illegal handwraps it's very hard to tell as there is only word of mouth and at the same time Tito is fighting bigger and defensively masterful guys. How's anyone to know his punch impact has gotten lesser when he is fighting Wright, Hopkins, Jones Jr.? It'd be much easier to tell if he fought another Joppy.
Guys cornermen check the other fighter gloves before every fight. To approve. So one time, 40 fights later, he does it and is FINALLY caught? Or was it just this one time? Supposedly William Joppy and Vargas were warned before they fought Trinidad. But they only said something AFTER that fight. Call bull**** on that. There have been people on both sides that have said it was nothing but mind games to some legit excuse. He Ko'd Mayorga, but using jones, Hopkins and WInky means what to you? That he couldn't KO three guys, two of which have fought bigger guys and haven't been dropped in a decade? And Jones wasn't KO;d by Ruiz either. Go figure. Anyway, it's as simple as this. See what is legal and isn't according to the boxing commissions (State and ABC), and read on how it was wrapped to compare.
Are you kidding me? You believe that? If one is warned of ILLEGAL hand wrapping, you think they would do nothing? You think nothing on how they said they were approached BEFORE their fights, yet said nothing until after the Hopkins fight? C'mon... atsch
True, also guys who went head to head with him got dropped. Guys like the above mentioned and Hoya (regardles of what one thinks of the fight) did not get dropped because they fought him smart. Why has Hoya never mentioned the handwraps? Even when talking about a prospective rematch he has never brought it up.
didnt hopkins himself say tito is the biggest puncher he's ever faced, that means hes a bigger puncher than all the middleweights hopkins has versed
