**** Vargas. Honestly I won't even feel bad for him if Mayorga delivers on his promise to permanently disfigure him. He just really rubs me the wrong way, and everything I've heard about him outside the ring reinforces that feeling.

Mayorga is such a character. But what he said about Spink's mum was pretty cold. I love hearing him trash talk and drum up interest for a fight but that was not cool.

lol... you lot are funny. as for the interview.... it was awsome. and i dont see how someone can have toney above mayorga in the trash talking department, imo.... he is king. toney just looks ******ed when doing it... then again... mayorga has been looking pretty ******ed as of late doing it... what did he say before the spinks fight? then he gets beat what did he say before the tito fight... then he gets beat down hardcore, and then he gets EMBARRESED against oscar? at some point you have to back up what you talk sure... vargas lost to tito and oscar, while also making them two of the best 154 battles in history (ring ranks tito/vargas 1 all time) there was no embarresment there... only time even coming close imo was the 2nd shane fight

Hehe, I think Vargas talks **** to hype himself up, Mayorga does it to **** other guys off to take them out of their game and into his. Really, I think Mayorga is trying to draw Vargas into a brawl with him.. Funny thing is I think Vargas has a good shot at beating him either way.

theres a pantomine villain element to mayorga(apart from the spinks stuff,even he knows he went too far there)whereas vargas is just a nasty bit of work,lacking mayorgas sledgehammer 'comedy';just spiteful.
Mayorga's character is just that: a character. Doesn't matter to me that he may have been a degenerate gangster before or even during his boxing career. His unsportmanlike behavior in the ring and with the press is contrived and calculated, and is 100% entertainment. Vargas is transparent: you can tell he really is as arrogant and machismo-obsessed as he acts at press-cons. Really, you're right, no extracurricular activities should come into play judging a fighter. But, the reports of Vargas acting like a tough guy and a proud macho dick out on the street just mirror and emphasize the way he is in the boxing world - and don't tell me it's a character because he's an open ****ing book. Whatever Mayorga does outside cannot be viewed in conjunction with his professional antics because they are complete fiction. The man makes up for his lack of skill in the sweet science with an unflappable thespian calm and comic timing that would make Seinfeld jealous.
Good post. I can see where Kirk is coming from, but I agree with you. I think Mayorga goes home at the end of the day a can probably laugh at himself and not believe his own b.s... Vargas on the other hand strikes me as a guy that stands really believes he is this Mexican cholo type. He takes it a little further.
