Hold on hold on. I realize its not an uncommon thing, but regardless of the setting its stil RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. You can't just call it 'show' and especially not 'bravado' considering its a big group of people doing it. I think its just really hard for American fans (I'm definitely one of them!) to accept that "In Europe and the rest of the world, booing a national anthem is no big deal" The weird thing is though, you sort of elude to the fact that "US athletes aren't in enough international competitions to see this kind of thing". Mentioning football, where I gather this kind of thing happens regularly.. but even in the boxing world, even when its Mexico v. Puerto Rico, they still are respectful of each other, and thats a HUGE rivalry!
Did anyone else go to the Judah-Cotto fight at MSG? I did, and believe me the pro Cotto crowd boo'd the anthem waaayy worse than the brits did. Start to finish.
Do you understand that the majority of the English public don't give a crap about royalty or their anthem? As I have said before, Brits do not build the same level of national pride as many other countries do, especially the USA. You shouldn't take their booing of the American anthem so personally. Heck, most Brits I know boo their own anthem! I don't agree with booing anyone else's, I wouldn't do it, but as far as I'm concerned this has gotten way out of hand. They were just a mob of drunks riled up because of the fight. No doubt some of them were/are morons, but that doesn't mean all British people are like that. If you were to sit down and talk to them personally you'd find that most of them are very friendly, approachable people. I'm not tryng to make excuses for bad drunken behaviour, myself, I don't drink and I think alcohol should be banned outright -- it causes far too much heartache in this world and has almost destroyed mine and my girlfriend's families, but you really are taking it too far. Let it go before it causes you to have a seizure! To be honest, I didn't even notice the booing. That's how irrelevant it is to me. Peace y'all. I would join in, laugh, then applaud them. It's meaningless. I mean, FFS, get on with the fight already! It's only two guys in a boxing match. The queen has nothing to do with it.
Yes, congrats to Floyd on a spectacular, well-timed smack, and a great win. At the end of the day, Ricky Hatton is not our national pride, contrary to what some may think. He's a good bloke but I feel no sadness in seeing him beaten because I am a fan of boxing, not just one man. It was an entertaining fight, and I would never let "pride" come in the way of anything. I have no desire to be better than the next man, I am no more important than the next man, I am only equal. I wish Americans would see that they, too, are not as important as the next man, only his equal. One-upmanship sucks.
Haha... glad to see my thread still has mileage. And come on -- "Gamer" is a valid sports term after all. - Jason
Sambob. What do you think this thread has been about? You should read the thread, we have (obviously) been discussing this for several pages, explaining our thoughts. Even if you couldn't be arsed reading all the pages, just on the page of your post, several people have discussed their feelings to the boo's. Your post is like listening to a group of people who for an hour have been discussing pizza, who likes it and who doesn't and then asking them "I was just wondering what you thought of pizza. I believe some people like it and some don't".

Especially when those boo's were pantomime anyway.
