Look at the cable numbers Alvarez just pulled off with Kirkland. His win was spectacular too. What other fight is better for business than this fight? A Pacquiao rematch? Maybe, but I somehow doubt it for the moment, as it's too soon.

Golden Boy are suing Al Haymon, how likely do you think a rematch is?

I know the politics are complicated, but a rematch would make huge money — guaranteed.

    Other good fights:

(will do good business and is a good legacy fight)

(A chance for Mayweather to score a KO, but Khan could present an interesting stylistic challenge for a while with his volume and stamina).

You don't think the re-airing of the Mayweather/Pac fight had anything to do with those numbers?

I have no interest in seeing a rematch the first fight was too one-sided.

Naw Mayweather destroyed Canelo and took his soul. Canelo is only now recovering and looking good in the ring. He will never give Floyd a challenge until he learns how to cut off the ring and improves his stamina for when he whiffs all his power shots and gets countered with Floyds stiff right hand

Yes I do but, Canelo is a legit PPV force too.

The whole May-Pac thing was great for boxing. I don't think the figures were so much about the re-airing as much as just the general awareness of boxing shooting through the roof because of the whole May-Pac episode. People care right now and it's time to take advantage of this window by putting on great fights. Canelo kept the ball rolling with a stunning KO of Kirkland.

We're onto a good thing right now. We can talk **** about how bad the fight was till we are blue in the face but the truth is that it was good for boxing and now it's time to capitalise.

    Boxing is very much alive.

What if it's at the full 154 this time or even 155, so it can be officially declared a middleweight contest (154.1-160)?

May is getting older, and Alvarez will continue to improve. At 24, he already has a stellar resume.

Alvarez's numbers after the Mayweather fight weren't that great. I really don't see Alvarez as the next ppv star in boxing but who knows? Time will tell.

Catch weight title fights don't count remember

At 154 Floyd might get it worse than Kirkland

I think the powers that be need to be smart. GGG and Thurman are guys with the charisma and style in (and Thurman out) the ring to become PPV attractions. We gotta consider just how well Alvarez has done so far in PPV in spite of his young age. He's just entered his prime.

BTW, Alvarez worked himself more into the fight against Mayweather later on. He's had a look at Mayweather now and should find better ways to impose his greater power and strength on Mayweather next time they fight, should they fight again.

    What were Mayweather's. DLH's, and Pacquiao's #s at 24?

Does Alvarez even speak English? If he wants to be a ppv star in the US, he needs to speak at least a little English. Moreover, it appears that he doesn't want to or can't fight at 154 anymore and he gets destroyed if he moves up to 160. I just don't see that much of a future for that guy. If Alvarez fights Cotto, then I could see him doing good numbers in a ppv but Cotto would be more responsible for the number than Alvarez.

I agree that Canelo is kind of stuck because I don't see how he makes a truly effective transition against elite opposition at 160. He needs to stay in his sweet spot for as long as possible because it's about the only sweet spot he has. He would make $$$ right now though once again with Floyd. Who do you suggest Floyd fight next from a business and/or legacy POV?

The only fighter at 160 who can cause Canelo major problems is GGG.
