That's your opinion, I still look at Pac as better for boxing, Floyd may have mastered the ring but Manny beat the living **** out of it.
So do you discredit the wins of every fighter in history that is heavier than their opponent on fight night?
fight night weigh is very relevant. You can get a good idea how big the fighter REALLY is on fight night. If you have competed before you will know the importance of weigh drain. Almost everyone does it unless you are some kind of fighting prodigy. You want an advantage. Put on as much of muscle before camp and trim close to weigh-in and drain to make weight and be huge coming back on fight night. While some fighter didn't put as much muscle so on fight night be two pounds higher and can't hurt their more muscluar opponents.
The casual fans of boxing dont really follow the ins and outs of boxing like we do, all they know is the fighters names and all they remember is their previous performances, casual fans are not concerned with the weights or how many pounds someone is over or under. So look at it like this, all Mayweather is doing is fighting a big name in the sport who casual fans know and can identify with so once Mayweather makes mince meat of him everyone will be anticipating the mega fight even more and it will sell more too because the whole scenario has a storyline to it. You can sell storylines to casual fans and non boxing followers. The difference is, we are on this site daily or weekly keeping up with the ins and outs so we will be the only ones asking these questions about Mayweather. To be fare, Marquez is the only suitable opponent for Floyd for a comeback tune up fight so to speak but the fight wont be as easy as people think. I see Floyd fighting Pac next and if he beats pac then he will fight Mosley, providing Mosley does not get beat.
But when training methods and ill-discipline between fights have so much to do with it, how can you deem that an accurate barometer of size? And if a fighter cannot make the weight below for whatever reason, how canh they truly be called a smaller fighter?
If you come into camp with mostly fat then your in trouble bc they are not really strong they are just fat.. Fighter like Erik Morales (towards the end of his career) spent most of his camp running to make weigh and can't focus on accuracy bc they are so fat. Fighters like Marg put on muscle but not so much that they can't make weight. But he is playing with fire for he was getting too big and takes a toll on him.
Everything you've said there is perfectly true - and you're the only one to have any sort of argument. I still think people make far too big a deal of size on fight-night when a fighter can make a weight, but hey, I can respect your view :good
I'm with you. I think if the fighter can make weight then they got it. They are not violating any boxing rules so they use it for their advantage. Some people are not as naturally talented so they have to get an edge somehow or if their style is to be aggresive then they better be strong to be able to absorb some punishment. :thumbsup
tune up fight cotto has fight jmm is lower risk and higher reward then mosley jmm is p4p 2 best fighter in the world, thats sets up a fight to see who really is p4p 1. its just bussiness ladies, just bussiness
WTF is the big deal!!? Oscar sought out Pac for over a year and he didnt get this much hate. Ohh wait...
we are talking about floyd, its always a big deal when they talk about him.you have not learned that yet.sure he has been off over a yr and his picking jmm of all people as a tune up.you would think that would be great but nooooooooooooo he should fight shane for his tune up and then who for a super fight haye ? hell he fights shane as a tune up then he should just retire.
Like its been said before, this is boxing. Everyones going to hate on someone. Fighters are different people. Theres SRL who after years of retirement picked a bigger no 1 fighter on the Planet in Hagler, but thats Leonard. PAcquaio, is in the same mold, if the money is right hed fight Dawson. These guys dont care for wins or loses, theyll risk it all for money and for Glory. Trinidads the same. Guys like Floyd being undefeated actually hinders that because that "0" has become all too important. Same with Calzaghe. Look at RJJ, when he tasted defeat heck , he'll fight just about anyone now
