Mayweather: Andre Ward should have signed with Haymon

Better chance of K2 and Team Ward working together than HBO and Team Haymon. Reason being is that GGG and Ward have far less power and options than either HBO and Haymon. As their options continue to dry up, eventually GGG and Ward, by sheer desperation, would almost be forced to fight one another. Conversely, HBO and Haymon have the resources to keep doing what they're doing to avoid one another.

Also, it would be expected that if Ward signed with Team Haymon that a fight against Stevenson would have been the big build-up extravaganza, not a Ward-Kovalev showdown.

And again, Ward seemingly likes his relationship with HBO and vice versa. I don't think he fancied leaving the network.

I'd guess that if Ward had his druthers that if/when he fights a serious opponent that he'll want the fight to be covered and produced by HBO. I'd also guess that he expected that HBO was going to turn down Paul Smith.

Actually, I thought it was a very good move to put Ward on BET. That is a potentially huge untapped market to expose Ward to. Many casuals who didn't even know who Ward was now know.
I wonder how much BET paid Roc Nation for the package?

True. But I also think HBO's current agenda is to try and cover all forms of boxing excellence - meaning they want to be able to show and say that they have many of the top technical fighters as well as the top co-called brawlers, as well as the top boxer punchers, as well as the top foreign fighters, etc. Ward obviously represents the first category.

Let's also not forget that Ward is an occasional commentator for the network which means he's buddy-buddy with Lamps and Kellerman.

They didn't. BET sold the slots.

Roc bought the airtime as part of a package that could include up to 9 two hour broadcasts within 18 months of the Smith fight.

The one guy on the business side he's loyal to is Prince.

That's why the Haymon talks were a non-starter. I'm not sure why people are under the impression Al seriously pursued him.

I talk to TMT all the time. Been around the gym many times. Ward gets laughed at by Floyd's circle. Not just over an inflated sense of P4P but also worth and ego.

Even TMT knows Ward is a small fish in the Boxing world when it comes to generating money and interest.

Ward has a 3 fight deal with HBO. I'd be surprised if he's not sporadically commentating for the network during his continued tenure.

Chavez is eating his way up to 230lb, so he can be in contention to be selected for one of Wilder's title defences.

Okay, that may be an exaggeration ... but probably not by much.

Ward's current deal is only great in terms of financial reward. Nothing else.

When did ward fight with "one arm" wtf ??? He had a lingering shoulder injury for the entirety of his career.. happened before the Olympics. Wasn't too bad if you consider he had every opportunity to fix it prior to making a name for himself. He had said on numerous occasions, "it's been so long I'm used to it and completely comfortable" fighting as is..

When you can rest it for prolonged periods, it becomes a non factor. So much for the myth of fighting with one arm.. never even came up.

Fighting with a very old injury and fighting with one arm is vastly different.. and no, I don't mean, literally one arm. I mean a hurt shoulder.

Same injury pac had, they both fought the better part of a decade with it. Difference is, Ward never used it like pac as the sole reason you got completely undressed in the ring
