Hatton blowing Malignaggi out of the water just iterates, boxing is no longer centered in America. Europeans dominate the higher weightclasses. Asians dominate the lower weight classes.

Yet we still have this "Oh, he's just Euro Trash" mentality. Well, Euro Trash (much like their Euro Currency) seems to be a lot more valuable than what we have in America at the moment.

What does that matter? It seems that boxing doesn't attract much talent nowdays because kids love other sports alot more. I'm a casual fan and the most striking thing I notice is that the audience for boxing seems to be more a mix of diehard fans and betters than you'd see in football or basketball.

Maybe there is a strong base of mainstream fans in Europe, and so more kids get into boxing there, but when I talk about boxing here, just about everyone around me either gives a blank stare or talks about Mike Tyson. I don't see Europeans fielding gridiron teams able to compete in the NFL, nor basketball teams with NBA quality (for obvious reasons, the Olympic sideshow can't count)... by the same token our men's soccer team ain't so hot and our boxing ranks are much weaker these days. We have more world-class athletes on major sports teams, who like as not are more gifted athletically than elsewhere, but how many of them are going to pass up on an NFL contract for the cruel world of boxing?

Look at football. Who in the world can put as many players with as much sheer athletic performance on the field? Look at the fans, it's everybody in the country. Now look at boxing.

The only reason Americans arent dominating boxing is because we dont want to at the moment

There were always better careers than boxing in the US and it's the same in Europe. Its just a bad excuse for US weakness in boxing right now.

look sorry, im not trying to troll here but claiming domination at sports that are not exposed to the world talent pool seems futile to me.

the standard of soccer, cricket rugby is as high as it is because the games have different styles and methods of developments that constantly challenge each other on difeerent continents. they are not exposed to this untill they play each other on a rare basis

this level of experimentation/ difference cannot possibly exist in american sport because players watch play against each other on a regular basis. is there an argument possible that as boxing exposure has increased in other countries then the american domination has slipped.

having lived in your country for two years i know that you dont suffer losers. is this a self perpetuating spiral? the reality of this point, as aboxing fan is to ensure that this doesnt happen. without america boxing is nothing.

please dont think these are comments designed to create conflict, its just my opinions. one thing that you should remember is that the last three rugby, football and cricket world cups were won by teams on different continents. how can american hegemony in any sport be said to produce the best possible result on this basis?

Sure. Any American who recently lost in a world title fight could have won the bout but just decided they couldn`t be bothered on the day. :huh

I never understood why all American sports are ones virtually only they or a couple of other countries play. Its as if they didnt like the idea of always winning so just decided to go away and make up new sports and play on there own.If America stopped playing Basketball,Gridiron and Baseball these sports would just fade and die, maybe Japan would keep Baseball alive but thats it.There is very few major sports that America actually competes with other countries in.

Anyone could argue that the only reasons Americans dominated in the past was because boxing was an American sport whereas now it's an "International" sport.

Although the latter argument is actually True.

So true. Americans seem to live in this little bubble of their own. American sportsmen? I don't know any out of boxing apart from Tiger Woods.

Hopkins losing to JC. You just keep rolling out the excuses. I`m sure you don`t mind European fighters beating your guys in the States. If you guys did mind then the American fans on here would be trashing those Brits and trying to denegrate their achievments. Oh hang on a minute.....that IS happening! :D
