Im just wondering what would happen if every major sporting country around the world started playing Gridiron as one of their major sports.....Im pretty sure as every normal thinking person would realise America would stop having the best players in the world and they would start to come from every corner of the globe

Would they just start to lose interest in it and move towards another sport?.

What does it matter America, more or less, is still an European colony.

Interesting point. A few decades back UK soccer was too self contained due to the arrogant assumption that we were the best because we invented it. Meanwhile the other countries played each other a lot more and when we eventually got more into the international scene we got humiliated. It takes international exposure to become top level at an international game, simple as that.

Another problem with boxing, apart from the lack of exposure while football players parade thier £50k per week salaries in eveyones faces while binge drinking more than Ricky Hatton is the fact that there are so many ways to fiddle the social security system for an easy living.

Why train your ass off for a one on one fight against an equal when you can get a free house and enough money for drinking and sky TV and roam around in gangs beating up defenceless people while your mates tell you what a big man you are. All you have to do is have a few kids, preferably while still a teenager and make sure you never pass any exams. As long as you don't have a history of actually doing any work no one will ever question your handouts.

I don't about the US but over here the traditional supply of tough men fighting to get out of the slums just isn't there, cos slum living is actually becoming more and more fashionable and easy these days. It really takes someone with that rare special pride to become a serious boxer.

im not downgrading hatton beating paulie its a good win against a prime champion title holder whatever but i will say the facts that roy jones then in 2000 99 98 97 was alot lot lot different then the 2008 one who couldnt stop felix trinidad and joe c beat and if you think otherwise your to much of a fan to understand the facts i give him credit for beating hopkins since hopkins isnt shot and can still fight and hopkins gave him a fight but roy jones no one deserves credit for beating roy jones since the first tarver fight

Now I'm not saying the European surge will not continue because I would be lying and dont myself as a boxing fan (guys like Abraham for example is making me a fan). I feel the more active boxing is globally the better the competition and quality of fights hardcore boxing fans will see. However one can state the newest crop of American's didn't make it to the big stage as of yet and as a result are pretty much unknowns. Here is a breakdown:

    Current/Past Prime
    Hopkins
    De La Hoya
    Mosley
    Johnson
    Campbell
    Wright
    Jones Jr.
    Forrest
    Tarver
    Toney
    Ruiz
    Rahman

    Prime

    Pavlik
    Dawson
    Diaz (Julio)
    Taylor
    Williams
    Berto
    Cunningham
    Malignaggi
    Spinks
    Holt
    Juarez
    Collazo
    Cintron

    Future/Unknowns
    Bradley
    Peterson (Lamont)
    Peterson (Anthony)
    Ortiz
    Alexander
    Ward
    Paris
    Greene
    Kirkland
    Dirrell
    Cloud

Pavlik (He lost to a Hof ppl), Dawson, and Diaz is doing a pretty good job now and should only get better as they fight in bigger fights. Sure it isn't great (atleast at the moment) but still good nonetheless, until the new crop comes around. I don't know about others but the future looks pretty bright to me especially the 140 (Lamont,Alexander,Ortiz, Paris) and the 168 (Ward, Dirrell) for American fighters.

If you think the JC of 2 weeks was at the peak of his powers you don`t know much about the sport.

Good post. He doesnt know what the hell he's talking about. Calzaghe beats a past his prime Jones, and Hatton beats a 2nd tier fighter in Malignaggi and suddenly Europeans are dominating boxing rofl.

More than just a good win.....Paulie was rated by Ring Mag as the 2nd best guy at the weight. Not many champs would dominate the 2nd or 3rd best guy in their weight class like that

Big difference between being a title holder and the best in the weight class.

Jones was past his bet YES but this "shot" phrase is BS. Jones showed some very good hand speed and looked great shape for the contest. Hopkins was shot when JC beat him but then you guys were waxing lyrical when he whupped Pavlik a few months later. US fans a VERY fickle.
