Gatti? I never thought you have a very high regard for Gatti!! He always looks like he went to a third world war regardless wheteher he was fighting a bum or a taxicab driver.
Tony was a paper champ, and now he's a disgraced cheater. Boxing enthusiasts in general aren't going to care that Floyd didn't pick up a paper title from an overhyped media creation that possibly cheated his way to glory.
Before the fight I thought Mayweather wouldn't even bother Baldoimir with husband punches abduction had no chance of q stoppage. But I remember watching it and thinkin he might be able to stop Baldoimir late but then he hurt his hand and Mayweather just cruised easily still looking good but i think he could battered Baldoimir late. Wouldve been a greater performance.
Took the easy way out and fought the Lineal WW Champion? The media were heckling him for fighting Judah and not Baldomir, he fights Baldomir straight after and still nobody is happy?!
In this day and age, being lineal doesn't mean you're any better then a paper titlist, sad to say. Politics and 4-5 belts per division being defended at any given time have forever changed that. There was a time when the lineal champ meant you were the top dog, but that doesn't apply anymore. To many times guys are either stripped, or just drop a belt. Besides, who do you think would have won, Baldomir vs. Margarito at the time? Who would have been the tougher opponent?
Gatti is a glorified Action fighter but it was a good fight. Gatti was a C fighter but atleast that fight didn't put me to sleep like that boring ass Baldomir fight.. That **** made the activity of watching "Paint dry" seem exciting!
it's amazing that the thread starter says this was a great performance without saying 'this is why foyd is great' and people still hate. shut the **** up and appreciate someone who's WAY better at something than you will ever be. Great thread TS.
It utlimately comes down to the opponent in the end. If Kobe beat LeBron in a game of one on one by a wide margin, it would be more impressive then if he beat some rookie by the same score. I really don't see why anyone is making a big deal out of this win. Fan defense I suppose. But not caring for this doesn't make anyone less a fan.
I would argue that Baldo just might be better than the real Margarito, the one without bricks in his gloves. Bruh, Mosley became the top dog after beating Hoya. He then lost to Forrest, who lost to Mayorga, who lost to Spinks, who lost to Judah, who lost to Baldo. Baldo was the real champ. Tony was the paper champ who picked up a vacant trinket. Bricked up Margo, wouldn've been a tougher opponent. Margo with no bricks is just a taller, slower, Baldo. Margo is tough guy, but he's not on Mayweather's level. Cheating would've been the only way he could've even given Mayweather a real fight. Cuz was getting worked by Clottey, before Clottey injured his hands. If Clottey's defense, counter-punching, and hand speed were bothering Margo, you can only imagine what would happen against Floyd. Since he's had his wraps taken away, Margo's been destroyed by Mosley, Pacquiao, and Cotto. You saw what Mayweather did to Mosley, and we're going to see what happens with Cotto.
Now we know Tony is a cheater.. But back in 2006 Floyd didn't know that! Floyd just didn't want the fight... PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
I can appreciate a mayweather fight like Mosley,Judah, and dlh but you have to be reaching beyond the call of duty to find any entertainment in the baldomir fight.
