Not sure why some of you get so hurt when the ppv #s are low. Even Mayweather knows that people paid to watch him lose; yet, he always came out on top. If he were that great a draw he would've made the same numbers regardless of opponent. It's the opponent and risk of the fight that would lead to the buys since those buying kept hoping he would lose.

No they did not. Give me a break. People waited for the fight for 5 years they didn't need ESPN to tell them why they should be excited for the fight. People who were interested in boxing didn't need ESPN's influence and people who were on the fence about wether or not to spend $100 certainly were not influenced by ESPN.

People who weren't interested in boxing were influenced by ESPN to buy the fight. ESPN was talking about it EVERYDAY. Posting features constantly, talk shows everyday discussing it, live streaming the press conference, media days, etc. ESPN did a lot. They didn't do anything for people who were interested in boxing, but for those who either a) didn't know or b) on the fence, they reached those people.

    Well, that's your opinion.

Fact of the matter is ESPN hyping Canelo/Cotto and GGG/Lemieux is a great way to reach casuals.

It's not my opinion it's common sense. People who weren't interested in boxing were most certainly not influenced by ESPN segments. They were interested because everyone and their grandma talking about the fight for years and the prospect of the two fighting.

The thing of it is, GGG-Lemieux will almost certainly take place on a night that has at least one big post season baseball game is underway.

Which do you think will garner more attention from ESPN?

Canelo/Cotto is going to get more exposure for sure at least when it comes to features and discussion.

Golovkin/Lemieux will/has gotten more exposure for live segments, ex GGG has already been on Sports Center and Sportsnation multiple times.

    1. because they speak english lol. Lemieux is completely fluent
    2. personality. They're not trash talkers but they at least can crack jokes

Cotto can speak English but he has ZERO personality. Canelo has personality but we can't really see it since he speaks zero english. I'm sure ESPN would do a lot more w/ them if they had those things though.

Still, ESPN will probably discuss Canelo/Cotto more since it's a bigger fight.

Also, I'm more familiar with College baseball than Pro, but... their games should be over by around 9-9:30 anyways right? Unless extra innings of course

The numbers were as predicted. 550k buys being generous - that means the figure is around 500k, maybe even as low as 450k.

This means Mayweather only has around 450k true fans (about 50k are probably Berto fans). The PPV king has 450k true fans (a portion of them believing it's the last time they would see a TBE fight, hence why they bought it).

I'm surprised that even one person bought that fake fight. Who wants to watch Roid Mayweather run, hold with his referee, judges and boxing commission...............................
