Cause for concern because of cuts...yes, I guess because its not as soft and the seam at the top of the thumb "protrudes"...but anything else? Not so much.

Its most likely for "aesthetic" reasons and not what some are trying to jump at with thinking it is a thumb that is made out of cut pieces of glass.
