The media doesn't have any control over what is out there for our eyes and ears to witness in the sport of boxing. Watching the actual FIGHTS and seeing the way it plays out gives the fans and media the information necessary to make their own conclusions based on real time feedback. You can't get any better than watching a boxing match live to make a judgement call on who is the best boxer that night or in the last decade.

Free thinking is what most fans of boxing are...they don't let the ABC organization tell them who is the real champion or who should be rated what? Based on ring preformances and level of opposition is a soild guideline to making a decision on who is better in terms of this sport.

Based on the level of competiton and how they preformed there is no question that Floyd is P4P #1 and is definitley ahead of Joe. The media doesn't have to tell me this because I watch the fights and I see who preforms and at what level which allows me to make a educated judgement call on that particular boxer.

You say the lack of "Variety" shows you that its all down to the media and their brain washing tatics....that could be the case, but what is MORE logical and holds more validity is that "PEOPLE" in general are fairly reasonable and intelligent enough to make decisions that are their own based on their experience or what they have witnessed. Based on that actual happening one evaluates, analyzes and makes up their mind on where that boxer or athlete stands compared to their peers. IF everyone is saying the same thing one has to ask "Why"......It's not hard to see "WHY" floyd is considered #1 and Joe is not.:deal

PBF has done more, and beat better fighters, but that is mainly due to the fact that Calzaghe has been ducked by many fighters during his career, and it's easier for an African-American, who is the son of Floyd Snr, and nephew of Roger Mayweather, to get big fights than Welshman Joe Calzaghe from Newbridge, to get defining fights.
Maybe if Joe had, had the chance when he was younger he would be P4P #1.

if calzaghe (when he started out) was a product of the hype machine that churned out the likes of khan and fraudley, it would have helped tremendously in securing fights against the bignames. a great injustice if you ask me.

Oh **** that's about as pathetic as excuses get

You really think Frank Warren couldn't have put better fighters than Manfredo, Bika, McIntyre, Podwill and Veit up for opposition for Calzaghe?

You REALLY believe that ****, in your heart of hearts?

Mayweather is significantly more skilled than any version of Calzaghe.

Mayweather has a far better resume than Calzaghe.

    The nuthugging is getting ridiculous.

Calzaghe is a great 168 pounder. Overall both had unsatisfying opposition until recently.

    This is a lie mate.

Mayweather just has a style which exagerates peoples' opinion of his skill. Calzaghe's jab for instance is far better, Floyd just twists around a lot more.

This is a good thread. For the record, Floyd is #1 on my list and Calzaghe #2. That said, I think China_Hand_Joe is at least holding is own in this debate, if not winning it. Most who are arguing with him are getting their asses kicked "Jeff Lacy" style, in my opinion. His MAIN points have not been answered adequately, and ultimately it looks like Floyds fans are following the path he predicted they would follow with their debate style all the while miraculously being unaware of it. Impressive.
