I noticed that Ellie Seckbach's getting abuse from fans because he keeps saying Floyds the GOAT and can beat all the other greats because he adjusts. Floyd never adjusts, he's fought the same way for years. His defensive pot shooting style has been his winning formula against the B world class guys he's been fighting. Even when he's been troubled in fights he doesn't change style. The only reason the fight with ODH turned was because Oscar gassed allowing Floyd to take the later rounds. Floyd isn't a dynamic boxer but he's a master of his style.
What did he do in the Cotto fight? Sweep the right around the guard when the straight wasn't working. What does he spend the first couple of rounds in every fight doing? Could it be gathering data to determine how best to get the win? Hell, in the same calendar year, he fought Guerrero and Canelo differently.
Sorry, I should have made myself clearer. I wasn't really talking about subtle adjustments like punch selection. Great Punch selection is part of Floyds style. He could well be the best off all time in that dept. I was more meaning a total adjustment in the way he fights. True greats like Leonard and Duran were far more dynamic than Floyd. They could war and they could box and they could do it multiple times in a fight. Floyd looked like he didn't know what to do with ODH until Oscar gassed allowing Floyd to counter and pot shot his way back into the fight. If Floyd had fought prime Duran that night he was losing big time.
I was thinking the same thing, the real *****'s are the ones that claim they hate him but can't stop doing topics on him
Did Oscar gas, or did he stop throwing because he was getting countered. I don't think Leonard and Duran were more dynamic, they were boxer punchers, a different style all together. Floyd has shown in the past that he can bang(check Emmanuel Augustus). Why would he try to win brawling(taking unnecessary punishment), when he can box his way to victory?
Oscar definitely gassed. He was throwing a lot of leather. Maybe Floyd was waiting on him gassing. Duran was more than a box puncher. He was technically outstanding in offence and defence and could go between both with a fluidity and ferocity never seen by any other fighter on film. Both Leonard and Duran were more than just box punchers. Leonard could box back foot, he could box punch, and he could war. Yes Floyds never needed to win brawling, thats my point. Floyd has never really needed to change style. He's been too good for this average era. If he fought Duran, Robinson, Hearns or Leonard then he would have to adjust. He's never fought anywhere near that level of fighter. Fighters who match him athletically and technically with a bit more dynamics to boot. They also hit much harder than anybody he's faced. Can Floyd change style if needed? I dont think he can, not against those guys.
In boxing the main objective is to land more than your opponent and get hit as little as possible, its easier to go toe to toe than to be master boxer, believe me every toe to toe fighter would rather be master boxer like Floyd so they can be P4P top fighters and long reigning champions, FLoyd destroys that kind of fighters easily, look what happened to Gatti!
fillip sugar ray robinson had all that Floyd had plus he had punching power and killer instincts also iron chin
