Mayweather - Cherry / Pavlik vs Hopkins

Pavlik probably knows it's going to be an ugly as fight with Hopkins hugging him all fight long and that it will be impossible to look good.

 

I was really hoping Winky would come to his senses. Weight could be a problem. He was down to 163 a week before the Lockett fight simply from diet and excercise. No 'fat suit' according to jsimps postings. His work ethic is phenomenal.

 

Good point actually. Joe has a high work rate but it is less threatening. Been a while since he scored a KO.

 

I'd hate to say see Hopkins geat beat up in this one. It's the trainwreck that you just have to watch. Not really looking forward to it but oh well at least it's not signed right?

 

Speaking as a big Pavlik fan.

The one thing Pavlik doesn't want to face is a crafty as hell Bernard Hopkins who can shoot right hand counters almost unseen against some of the better defenders in the game, while weathering the storm and countering when being attacked.

Pavlik works off being able to back his opponent up and flooding their engine so to speak with his punches, he won't do this with Bernard.

Bernard SHOULD have learnt from the Calzaghe fight that workrate alone is enough to win a judges decision and boost his accordingly but ultimately I have a fear that Pavlik, despite me wishing the best for him, will simply be overmatched against the technique and savvy of Hopkins.

Pavlik can upset most odds with his physicality, he won't do that with Hopkins

Crazy my two favorate fighters hopkins since he destroyed trinidad and pavlik since he ko'ed taylor. I've got to go with the new blood here though, the best thing to happen in this fight would be for pavlik to stop hopkins then he retires with no harm to his legace while pavlik becomes the next delahoya.

 

$2.5 mill for what was essentially 2 rounds against Lockett. Now he has to move up in weight and face a guy that will do his best to NOT let a fight happen? I really hope we get Smoger for this one. We know it won't be Cortez at least.
