You just said Joe is going after old men. So Pavlik vs Hopkins? Pavlik wants to see how much better he will fair against Hopkins. If he beats Hopkins, this will set a mega fight with Joe. Joe is going to get paid and then move back down to 168 to fight Pavlik.
You "hope" Pavlik is ready for it. Pavlik won't have faced anything like Hopkins before. No amount of Mirandas, Locketts and Zunigas can prepare him. It'll be interesting to see how he reacts but to me, he's just too stiff to deal with Hopkins' style.
Posters here cannot appreciate just how hard it will be for Pavlik to land cleanly on Bernard until the fight begins. Hopkins will win this fairly comfortably.
Rewatch Pavlik/Taylor 2. Even if you believe Hopkins beat Taylor, still no way Hopkins is that far ahead of Pavlik. Taylor is faster than Calzaghe. I've watched P/T2 back to back with Cal/Kessler twice. Taylor is the fastest of the four and Kelly weathered him quite nicely.:yep
Taylor is not faster than Calzaghe...not at all. And how is a close UD win (I had Kelly winning 7-5, but I wouldnt argue Taylor 7-5 as well) weathering him quite nicely??? :huh
Regardless of those videos (and I wouldn't bother trying as different boxers set up differently to other styles) I'm not talking speed. Timing is everything.
Sorry. I've done the comparisons twice. Joe is losing speed. He is not as fast as Taylor now. Winning is weathering nicely. Throw in the TKO if you must. Pavlik dealt with Taylor's speed, he can deal with Hopkins.
So what is Hopkins gonna do, back up all night, try to time Pavlik with single shots, and grab after throwing? I don't think that will work against Pavlik because Hopkins can't sustain it the whole fight. I don't see Hopkins taking out Pavlik with single punches either. Pavlik will most likely outwork him for a decision win.
You're basing the outcome purely on speed???!?!??! Hopkins brings NOTHING else to the table in your opinion?
The referee will be key in this fight. If he doesn't allow Hopkins to grab all night and fake low blows it will be a one sided beat down. Hopkins showed us with Joe he can't go 12 rounds at the pace Kelly can bring.
You think Hopkins is quick? No thought not. He dropped Calzaghe sweetly with a short right hand that he didn't appear to put much into it. That's a skill... the art of timing. Calzaghe doesn't go down to any old punch. Luckily for Joe, he learns on the job.
