i think maybe one of the most underated chins in boxing today! dont get me wrong am not a pbf fan, (cotto all the way) but he has been in with some decent punchers -(castillo, mosely, hatton, de la, zab) thev all rocked him, but he seems to smile and walk through the shots!! would have loved to see cotto v pbf in 2006 or 07 at light ww!
He might very well have a great chin, but with his defense, and rarely getting hit clean, how can you really come to that conclusion I wonder? HE was still buzzed by Chop Chop a while back, and Shane more recently. I think it's a solid chin. Nothing special though. Main thing is, we have no way to really say since he doesn't get hit cleanly.
He recovers well because he's in great condition, I don't think he has a very good chin though-I mean in the veign of a fullmer for a random example. Good enough and his exemplary defence fills in all the blanks. This is a question designed to pick holes in his game, fact is Mayweather's a genius and it's best not to bother.
Im not a fan either but have to agree. For all the elusive moves etc when he does get caught he can take the shots very well.I think Mosley hurt him most.
I know I will get roundly attacked for saying this... but I think Floyd's little secret is that he does not have a strong chin at all. His defence is so excellent that he has got through the majority of his career without taking that many clean hard shots to the chin, but on the rare occasion he has, he has been badly hurt by single shots. Corley and especially Mosley are strong punchers, so there's no way Floyd could be said to have a weak chin, but I really don't believe Floyd has the type of chin which could see him eat up shots throughout a fight, getting the spaghetti legs from single shots tells me his chin is far from impregnable. One of the reasons I fancy Pacquiao to beat him is that Pac has the speed and the power to tap that chin, and tap it good. So I do not agree with your assessment here.
He's got a wicked chin, and he's good at tucking it in and almost never having it tested. His defense truly is a wonder.
The punch Mosley landed would have either dropped or knocked out most out there in my opinion, that punch landed in full forced and timed perfectly. Mosley just tricked him, threw a body shot and timed that shot perfectly and it landed flush. Mayweather looked nearly out from it but was still fighting, one problem in that case is Mosley actually ran out of gas in the same round even though he landed a great hook afterwards which nearly dropped Mayweather but he took it still. If Mosley didn't shockingly run out of gas so quick he might have done more damage. Overall, I think Mayweather's chin is very good. There are early fights of his where he's caught a lot, goes back to the corner bleeding and still takes shots from odd angles well enough. He used his defense far more moving up in weight because he had to and because his power wasn't as affective as it once was. There are many moments in different fights where he's caught with shots that would either KO or at least drop other fighters yet he takes them well so his chin is pretty good in my book and with his great defense it makes things look like a nightmare to opponents hoping for a KO. Still hopefully more fights to come will keep proving it good, he has been caught by Mosley and Marquez so expect Pacquiao, if that fight ever happens, to land quite a lot too and we all know how hard and fast Pacquiao hits, so that's an ultimate test HOPEFULLY coming up.
A single shot won't get the job done in my opinion, to finish him it has be many shots and a consistent attack. Mosley ran out of gas and Mayweather was still throwing despite being hurt. If a single shot would seriously "tap" him good enough to floor him then he would have at least been dropped by the shot Mosley landed, Corley, Castillo, Corrales and others. If a single shot would get it done then he definitely has a weak chin but he has proven already that he can take a shot so I doubt one punch would end him by anyone including Pac. That's just my opinion based on previous fights, if Pac does indeed end it with one punch then I think credit should be given to Pacquiao's power because others have landed and landed insane shots, Mosley basically put EVERYTHING in his punch, his entire weight and it almost looked like he's going to kneel on him after landing that one and Mayweather was still there.
Margo ate most of Mosley's rights for breakfast. Floyd was stunned and staggered off the only two he took in the entire fight.
In the end of the night he was dinner for taking those shots. The first shot in the first round Margarito took immediately discouraged him to carry on his attacks as usual, that also includes the body shot. Another thing, heavy bags like Margarito's gameplan going in is taking shots, Mayweather's isn't.
