Capturing a title in the MW division would be great for Floyd. That victory for his career would be better then him beating Pac from a legacy perspective, but from a boxing world perspective. Manny Pacquiao name will forever haunt him if these two never fight. None the less, he will be rated higher then Pac on the ATG list, and he still will be in the HOF.
Which means absolutely nothing in this context. Plus your not a true champ until you defend the belt anyway. Beating Cotto again doesnt help his legacy. It just means he will have gone on record as ducking Manny AND Golovkin, because while GGG-Floyd is a stupid fight at the moment - the second Floyd puts on airs of a supposed Middleweight Champion its no longer a stupid fight and a duck if it doesnt get made. Floyd should think twice about fighting Cotto, its not going to do him any favors with boxing historians. Only a small handful of diehard Floyd fans will give him anything but grief for the move.
I certainly don't support or condone this fightÂ….though I'd most likely watch it, the first one was quite entertaining for hardcore fans.
You mean it means absolutely nothing to you, which means absolutely nothing. I bet you are proud of Pac's eight titles though, including his victory over Margarito in that catchweight title fight at a weight neither were ranked at. lol
I could care less about Manny or Floyd, the era they have sculpted is one of, if not the worst in boxing history due to the both of them. Means nothing, like I said - to very many people. Floyds career has been garbage for years now, and all signs point to it continuing to be garbage until his retirement. If you can tell me with a straight face that Floyd can beat GGG at 160 and will do so if he beat Cotto for lineal belt, then OK. Otherwise, we both know how much of a farce the idea of Floyd being 160lb "lineal" actually is and how little it means. Because noone, not his fans nor himself will think for a second he is the best 160 pounder.
The lineal title is the only semi-legitimate title out there nowadays. Mayweather has fought titleholders in most of his recent fights, if the belts these guys held are worthless and Mayweather's career lately is garbage then the lineal belt must mean something, even in your eyes. GGG may or may not be the best fighter at 160. I don't know and neither do you. What I do know is that Cotto holds the lineal belt and history would remember Mayweather more for winning the lineal belt at 160 than some alphabet belts from Golovkin.
:good I really do have a feeling Floyd is making the wrong decision here. Roach was pushing for a rematch with Floyd for Cotto and was trying to bait him out by saying that Cotto is a different fighter and will knock out Mayweather. Then, Floyd chose to fight a rematch with Maidana and here we are today. If this happens like I think it will, I can see either the September date being the rubber match, or Floyd retiring. He stands to lose a lot with this decision, and not much to gain in terms of public popularity. Cotto on the other hand can still fight Canelo for another big payday and then ride off into the sunset.
