Let me get this straight. A fighter who is supposed to be considered the sport's "best" (while not accomplishing anything of note since 2007) will be fighting a has-been fighter who has not been truly relevant or considered elite since 2009.

And this is supposed to be boxings "BIGGEST FIGHT OF 2012"?

You have to be kidding me.

There is no equivalent to this garbage in MMA. The top fighter would not be fighting a has-been in the biggest fight of the year.

Folks, the standards for this sport have been set lower and lower and each year. Wake the **** up and stop feeding these clowns your money

Cotto-Marg II was the sports 4th highest revenue generating fight of 2011 so this irrelevant talk is poop. Cotto is also the highest rated JMW on the planet right now and Floyd is going up in weight to challenge him for his belt.

    /thread.

Floyd did fight Ortiz last time out.

Its not different than what Pac has done in his career as well...which is interesting considered Floyd has ripped Pac on this.

    It's business.

You don't like it, don't want to support it...don't watch it. I don't. I may catch a replay but I'm not paying the PPV value for it.

Rather you like it or not, Floyd came back to the sport and beat the number 2, and 3 pp4 guys in the sport. One of those guys being the number 1 welterweight in the world as well. He took on a young strong champ for his belt and now is facing one of the top guys in the sport once again. Those are the facts. Get over it.

dont watch the fight....How is Cotto a has been and he has only lost twice, once to a cheater and once to the second best fighter in the world

Cotto isnt elite? lol dude has been once of the best fighters in the world now for the past 5 years seems to me you dont know much about boxing

since his stretch of inactivity Mayweather has beaten the number one welterweight in Mosley, the best young champion at welteright Ortiz, and had a tune up with the 3rd best fighter in the world in Marquez....people forget Mayweather started at 130, he has been fighting larger men almost his entire career.

On the contrary the standards of boxing is higher and higher every year, back in the day you could lose and not lose any cred like the UFC, bout now you lose one or two fights you are a dumb, thats kinda bull ****

exactly...soon as those guys get hit good one time either they roll over and quit, get cold cocked because their defensive skills are shitty and they swing like dudes in the street and their so-called martial artists.

Imagine if dudes in boxing quit as much as MMA fighters.....we wouldnt have boxing at all

More like "fan" boxing IQ has gotten lower and lower each year since the 80's. Nowadays, when someone loses they're shot/done. "Fans" these days don't look at all the facts surrounding fights and just ignore anything that would make their idols suspect.

Boxing has increasingly become overwhelmed by fanatics of certain fighters, and not fans of the sport itself and it's history.

So Mayweather is so good that him fighting a borderline top 10 fighter in the world is a joke? Wow.

As far as Cotto...maybe he is physically a bit diminished compared to what he was prior to Margarito. could be true. But if his focus is still there, his determination...and his CONFIDENCE (most of all)...which he says is now back after beating Margarito, his nightmare....then it's a Cotto is still good. Maybe not at his absolute best, but still good.

But I'm not staying home and paying PPV value to watch it. It's a choice.

Fans and supporters of Mayweather would like you to believe that Cotto is a formidable opponent , but lets not forget that the last time he stepped up against Elite competition, he was destroyed. The only real competitive fight left for Mayweather was Manny Pacquiao, this is the fight that should have happened but it has not and will not. Thus, this is the best that can be done for boxing at the moment (May/Cott, Pac/Bradley). Settle for left overs.
