If Mayweather beats Cotto then I can see him fighting Alvarez for the Ring title in November, while Pacquiao does his little tournament with a lightweight and junior welterweights.
I'm not sure GBP will risk Alvarez.... Floyd would take him apart. The longer he tries cutting to 154 the shorter his career will last. He'd be much better going up to 160.
Don't get why people think Martinez @ 154 is a harder fight than Cotto @ 154? I think Cotto has got a real chance in this fight if he can get his jab going. Oscar caused Floyd a lot of problems till he stopped throwing the jab.
It comes to something when people start praising a fight and e-patting Mayweather on the back because of his business acumen. "He could have fought this guy, but then he'd only make $xxxxxxx. Nice one Floyd, you managed to get the fight that has secured the most money, you really deserve a big pay day from years of taking on all comers and fighting once every 18 months."
Again, is Floyd fighting Manny's leftovers now? Or is that a criticism only valid when talking about Pac'?
Not really, Pac drained Cotto down to an unbelievable catchweight - Floyd is willing to take Cotto on at full blown LMW. Different kettle of fish altogether.
I was taking the **** with the "unbelievable catchweight" bit. Seriously though, it's not leftovers whichever fighter we're talking about, as far as I'm concerned. Cotto is a legitimate matchup, one of the best possible putting aside Pac and Martinez. Either way though, I'm still don't really give a **** until he fights the one man he should've fought years ago. Floyd should have Cotto, Marg and Williams on his record by now, and he should've fought them when they were potentially mouth watering fights.
If Cotto can get some snap in his jab it could be interesting for a few rounds until Mayweather starts to time him with the right hand. Hopefully Cottos footwork can get him into positions to make it awkward for Mayweather, ala Hatton for a couple rounds. Floyd also doesnt punch with volume like marg and pac, making cotto back up. Floyd wins 9/3 or 8/4, something like that but il be watching and cheering for Cotto
That a boy. It'll be good for the soul to keep this positive attitude up until fightnight:happy I do prefer Cotto over the other possible opponents mentioned. It didn't take much mind you.
Watching Cotto is always painful, but it's one of the reasons he's fan-friendly. He's rarely in a bad fight.
