cotto-floyd was the much bigger fight back then. oscar was supposed to fight floyd at 147 since it was the requirement if a 2nd fight would be made so oscar prepared for it by fighting forbes at 150. floyd just took a vacation when they could not settle so oscar just picked a lightweight as a floyd replacement and we know the rest of te story from here.
Mayweather was already saying he was done after the first De La Hoya fight and had planned on staying retired. Ricky Hatton came trash talking, Mayweather whooped him and went back to retirement. He never had any intention on fighting DLH a 2nd time. Also, the second fight I would be surprised if it sold half of what the first fight sold due to the fact Mayweather won and it wasn't that good of a fight.
oscar floyd 2 woulda out done the Cotto-Mayweather...Cotto was big in 08 and he racked up 500,000 buys with Tony.. The hardcore fans and true boxing fans who make up very little of the ppv buys, wanted to see the Cotto fight more, yes....but by no means was it the "bigger" fight...lol...
