if the fight happens in the UK at 140 lbs and not 100% on PBF's terms, then maybe I'd watch it.

    but it wont.

Mayweather is waiting on the Margarito express to crush Cotto. So then he can stand back and say "none of these guys are on my level"

If Cotto loses to Margarito just watch what happens.

Hate to say it, but if Cotto loses to Margarito - Floyd would probably be right.

That's why I hope Cotto beats Margarito - that way us fans can be treated to the biggest fight in the sport sometime in 09.

I agree. I think that even though Mayweather likes to appear as a guy who does what he wants and doesn't care what anyone thinks, he is surely aware that a showdown with Cotto contributes to his legacy much more than a rematch with Hatton.

Not saying that a fight with Cotto couldn't happen after a Hatton rematch, but then we are talking about that being as much as a year and a half or two years away. Both guys are in their prime now and waiting doesn't make sense. Actually, it's too bad Floyd is fighting Oscar in December as that would have been a perfect time for a fight with Cotto to happen. But, that's been discussed ad naseum on here, so I won't go there.

Barring a loss by either guy, Cotto/Mayweather happens after the De La Hoya fight.

No they won't go for it, Hatton WON'T move to 147 and Mayweather won't go down to 140. With Cotto/Margarito fighting it out you ought to expect Mayweather to fight the winner of that fight because that's what he's going to do.

Floyd might be right in that he's a better fighter than either Cotto or Margarito, but to say that neither of them deserve to fight Mayweather is dumb.
Both guys are top welterweights and they most certainly deserve to fight Floyd. Mayweather's constant bs about how no one is worthy to fight him is a just a way to deflect criticism from the fact that he's choosing to fight Oscar first.

Some people are already saying Cotto is the best welterweight right now based on his resume (not the champ of the division, but the best fighter within it.) Anyone who defends Mayweather's crap about Cotto not being worthy is a deluded moron.

Totally agree and Cotto can still have an easy fight like the Gomez one as he waits since their fight is in December and after it they could meet. If Mayweather refuses to take that fight then I'll start criticising too unless he decides to officially retire, but if he fights Hatton or anyone else then I won't back that up either.

That's because you obviously don't know this guy, he has been a spammer here for FAR too long but seems to have come back to his senses these days. But a major spammer he was and everyone remembers it.

I have serious doubts that he'll retire. If Cotto beats Margo, then Floyd will surely realize that people will always wonder why Mayweather chose to retire instead of facing Cotto. Such a criticism may not be entirely fair as personally I am a big believer that a fighter should retire when it's right for him, and not when other people think he should.

But, the criticism will be there nonetheless.
Plus, there's no compelling reason for him to retire. He's still young, his skills have not faded much at all, and the Cotto fight would be huge.

    He won't retire.

I sure as hell hope so, as long as the big money fights are there he will still find the motivation to sign those papers. As Roger said, if it makes big money then it makes sense and I'm pretty sure that's them hinting at how Margarito/Cotto goes, how many they attract..etc so when the winner emerges in that fight he just does it with major support. That will definitely attract Floyd the way Hatton's fight with Castillo did.

To go semi off-topic here I know many are complaining about DLH/Floyd II but let's face it, is there any other fight to sign instead?, the only recent extremely close fight Floyd has been in was against DLH and when there's no one else to go for and a DLH rematch is still possible then it's only logical to take it and stay active. Only thing I'm worried about is weight, this rematch is going to be at 154 again, correct?, does that mean Floyd will move down to Welterweight again after the fight for Cotto/Marg winner or he doesn't really care about that fight?, the moving up/down is kind of getting out of hand.

so I'M the spanner now am I?
face it mate, our feud started with you talking **** and making the same old lame jokes about Toney on a daily basis. I stuck up for JT.

Yes we disagree on a lot of other things, that does not make me a spammer.
You think i'm an idiot and a piece of garbage, I think you're a bore and a naive little boy. Lets leave it at that.

I'll bring this thread back up in 2009, if i'm wrong and there is no rematch then I will hold my hands up and admit to being wrong. You can give me an avatar for a few months.

    Hatton
''The fight doesn't have to be at welterweight," Hatton told The Sunday Mirror. "it could be catch weight, say 143 or 144 pounds. That would be somewhere between our best weights and make it a level playing field. I'm sure Floyd could come down a few pounds easily enough. He's not the biggest welterweight, so it wouldn't be a problem for him to make the fight at catch-weight."
