Hopkins is better than Calzaghe, it makes sense to favor him in a match up. He will win because he is superior.

My god the arrogance is breathtaking! It seems your basing your analysis on nationality alone. Joe will beat this old man up. Not because he's more talanted but because Hopkins will be 43 when the fight happens. **** the idea of workrate, its all to do with reaction time and if Bernard can struggle so badly with the average Taylor, whats a fighter like Joe gonna do with him. To many americans think Joe is another Hatton.

    Two points worth considering:

    1. Hopkins is indeed 43, but he appears to be one of those fighters whose decline will be gradual, meaning, it seems unlikely at this point that he will just "get old overnight". At 36, Calzaghe isn't exactly a spring chicken.

    2. Hopkins did not struggle with Taylor, as evidenced by his strong finishes in both fights. I think Manny Stewart said it best during the Hopkins-Tarver bout when he mentioned Hopkins should have made the jump to light heavy long before he did. He's looked much more comfortable fighting since he left the middleweight division.

Take this for what it's worth. Hopkins is a crafty vet who knows how to fight. Joe may be able to beat him, but it's not going to be easy.

Hopkins and Calzaghe will be the most boring fight ever.

This seems to indicate you believe Hopkins will dictate the pace. Am I reading you correctly?

I think this fight is rather simple to figure out.

Hopkins will clearly be the ring general, using the middle of the ring, popping in and out, conserving energy.

Joe will likely fight from the outside, as always, circling Hopkins all night, picking his spots, with Hopkins counterpunching.

Since neither is known to tire substantially down the stretch, the two important questions are who will be able to land more clean punches, and where will the fight be fought.

Fair enough, and not much unlike how I see things playing out, except, I think Joe will try to do a lot of work on the inside and I don't believe that will bode well for him.

If Joe had Hattons balls then we'd have all stopped talking about him 7 years ago.

Joe's never struck me as being that dumb. But who knows. No gameplan ever tends to wirk well against Hopkins. If he gets frustrated from the outside, he might move in for better luck.

Hopkins is very versatile and intelligent. He can fight inside or ouside, clean or dirty, box or brawl, offense or defense, etc.

Jos is also a very intelligent fighter, and what surprises me most about his fans is a lack of mention on this detail.

I dismiss arguments that simply state "Calzaghe will overwhelm him with work rate". If Calzaghe is to win, I suspect he will put his ring intelligence and versatility on display.

I think this could be quite the tactical chess match.

Joe figured Kessler out by round 4 or 5 and it was over after that. Hopkins will mix things up keeping Joe on his toes.

Joe's best moment was between rounds during the Lacy fight when he turned to his trainer and said that Lacy was a *****. And then almost laughed.

I was a big Lacy fan before that moment.
