Kirk, I understand your question, I'm just speaking as a (neutral) fight fan, like Capfunds said. No one should allow the fact that they are a Floyd sack-surfer affect their opinion on who he should fight. The truth is that he shouldn't dodge anyone. No fighter should. If the competition is there (and it certainly is), they should be getting it on, otherwise they should get the **** out of boxing. Either that or stop claiming to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Floyd is a good fighter, no one can deny it, but he is see-thru. Always dodging questions when asked about fighting guys like Cotto (see post-Hatton fight interview). It sucks. I agree very much with this.
With the Floyd Sr in the corner, it will hype the fight and still pull in over a million buys. Hardcore fans will be hurt by it. Casuals might like it for the hype.
cotto has no defence? eze bro.. if he had no defence he would have been knocked out against judah and mosley... his defence is very underated,
Ill address this to kirk b/c I believe you are the only objective poster in this thread. I would like to see Mayweather fight Cotto, even though I get kind of apprehensive when two of my favorite fighters fight such as was the case in the Cotto-Mosley fight. With that being said, I recognize two things. First, NO ONE turns down a fight with de la hoya. It just doesnt happen. What has every fighter said in post fight interviews from 140-160 in the last ten years? "Ill fight anybody...I want de la hoya." Fighting DLH is like hitting the jackpot in this sport, and I fully understand why no one rejects a DLH fight. Secondly, we've been through this so many damn times. It goes in circles. People hate mayweather, hate on every possible opponent he could face, he can do no good, then he puts on an impressive performance (hernandez, corrales, castillo II, gatti, hatton), and then the haters turn into dickriders. Then a month or two passes and the cycle continues. It gets old. Yes I would like to see the fight, it would be huge, entertaining, and intriguing. And I also understand that no one turns down a DLH fight and we've gone through this a million times. And its absolutely ridiculous that the same people who thought "dlh almost beat pbf" "pbf only won a split decision" "dlh was robbed" all of a sudden are turning into "pbf is fighting someone he dominated" "pbf is afraid of a challenge" "dlh has no chance."
i think he had a fight a couple months before the cotto fight... like 4 or 5 months beforehand... was looking ok before a headbut i THInk.... not sure on that. at any rate, whatever factors that count against cotto, like the ones you state, i think are evened out with the fact that he DESTROYED judah.. he didnt just land one punch, he didnt outbox him, he straight up ****ed him up. beat him up, made him take a knee, knocked him down, then ref jumped in to save judahs life.. i think its about even...
He fought less then 1 round and it was a NC. Judah did get destroyed but man those two nut shots reminded via Tito-Vargas.
im gonna look that up (i believe you i just want to see the numbers) that suprises me, i apologize for the correction. I guess his chin is better then people thought.. thansk for the correction :good
Most of those shots landed on the top of Cotto's head and at bad angles. Looks like we have another COMPUBOX/BOXREC warrior on our hands.
Well this was an old Shane Mosley hitting him, bad angles understandlable. But he still got hit nonetheless. And if I was compubox warrior I would of laid out the exact percentage, not just 50% because both Judah and Mosley landed over 50%
b/c its hard for us to get our circle-jerk on hating on mayweather if people keep trying to be objective and bull**** like that...
thank you m'man i hear ya man... its how i felt for Mayorga/Vargas... and even i didnt like Cotto mosley too much because SOMEONE has to lose.. lol. it is bitter sweet... I can totally understand that. And on a solely PERSONAL level, i dont blame mayweather for taking this fight because its his LIFE here... and this fight would make him BANK.... i wouldnt really blame anyone for taking the fight, but its all about INTENT to me.... and CONSEQUENCES. If mayweather has no INTENT to fight cotto, mosley, or williams after ODLH, then he needs to suffer the consequences, which is stop being mentioned as the top fighter in the division, be stripped of all his 147 titles, so others LIKE a cotto or williams, can get them. If mayweather would come out and say that after Oscar he will fight cotto... i wouldnt have even made this thread. i agree with you to an extent here... but at the same time i think this time its a bit warrented, due to the surrounding fighters at 147, who hes fought and is fighting at 147, and whats at stake (p4p1, ring title, whatever belt hes holding right now) hatton was a good win, and people should remember that hatton was actually ABOVE cotto in p4p... but... that doesnt mean much at 147. that was basically a 140lb fight. very good points ill, i see what your saying.... and in a way i kinda fit in that catagory too in fact. I think the first fight was very close.... that being said, i really DONT think hoya has a chance. the only reason i think it was close the first time is because of hoyas size and punch... mayweather did JUST enough that he has to do with going no further, or taking no other chances, against an opponent that kinda let him do that... so that the outcome was indeed close, but at the same time i give hoya little chance beyond the average chance i would give one elite fighter fighting another elite fighter, because i think mayweather would do just that much more to beat him. hoya just doesnt have the stamina nor the effective aggresion against slick boxers imo. So.. yes, it was close... but no i dont give hoya a shot. And i really dont think it would be that entertaining... but maybe the biggest reason is.... the world will view this with a roll of the eyes. and those that do bite, and buy it, will no doubt be dissapointed like they were the first fight. *for the record im going by articles in the news, internet, threads on forums, and everyone i know who bought it that couldnt tell you who corrales is (meaning not boxing fans) i for one thought it was fine...
i just cant remember judah landing that many true power shots on cotto... i remember mosley having quite a few moments against cotto, but not judah... i cant think of even 10 landed powershots... crazy.
