Over 1.5 million viewers tuned in to see chavez-Martinez on HBo. CBS airs on every continent so the possibility to get ratings on a 2 hour fight card would be far more than a million viewers. For instance here in LA, Ca alone there are millions of Mexican people. You don't think a Canelo would a million viewers fighting [insert fighter name here] on free CBS primetime sat night?

Floyd couldn't get a 3-5 million or more viewers fighting for free on CBS?

Your comparing the fan base of the NFL to boxing? :patsch:rofl:rofl Here is a little perspective. Sunday night football averages about 21 million viewers. That's why the TV networks are willing to give them the big money.

You can throw all the big name fighters out there you want. That doesn't mean people will watch it. Your average viewers don't give a crap about boxing technique. They just want to see some one get KOed. Your hardcore fans who can appreciate boxing are to far and few. Bottom line is people will only watch if they are entertain and that just leaves the hardcore fans.

Espn claims 4 million people watched Cunningham-Adamek and this guy saying Floyd is going to get 1 million viewers, seriously I think we have self hating boxing fans who want it to be failing

You pre sale ads, I think you want the ratings to be low

I honestly don't think he cares as long as the money's the same. That's why the (per fight)guaranteed money was so important in luring him to Showtime.

LOL. Keep with the wishful thinking. Pre sales add. LMFAO. Do you even understand the concept of pre fight adds? The network pays to hype up a fight not the sponsors.

Like I said. The only free boxing we'll get are Friday night type fights. Any big name fights that commands 20 plus millions will continue to be PPV.

Who is making 20 million besides Pacquiao and Mayweather? You act like I'm saying every month for Mayweather I'm saying once ever, Golden Boy was able to secure 2 million in cash and 8 million in cash for Floyd, I think you more want it to fail, I'm not saying it happens but to think it can't happen is insane

Because I don't agree with you I want it to fail. What are you 12? I gave arguments as to why the big fights will not be free. A large part of most boxers earning is a share of the PPV revenue. Lets take the Martinez and Jr fight. Total purse was 4.5 millions. Add in what each guy got from PPV sales of 1.5 millions and that should make it over 10 millions. Throw in production cost and your in th 13 million plus range. If this was shown on free TV you may get 5 million viewers. That mush money for anything under 10 million viewers is a failed show.Very successful network shows that draws 11 - 16 millions viewers wouldn't even come close to production cost of the fight. That is why big name fights will still be PPV.

After landing Floyd Mayweather, CBS/Showtime has big plans for hyping the boxing star

Ex-HBO head Ross Greenburg now working on rival Showtime's boxing
CBS/Showtime hype for Mayweather will include CBS special
CBS/Showtime banks on boxing as 'reality TV star'
Having surprised the boxing world by grabbing Floyd Mayweather from HBO, CBS-owned Showtime will today announce its plan to hype the boxing superstar's Showtime pay-per-view debut May 4 against Robert Guerrero.

CBS/Showtime, including re-airs, will have more than 100 hours of boxing fight replays and new documentary content on Mayweather -- including 20 original hours.

The Mayweather programming will include a prime-time documentary April 3 on Showtime that will detail the boxer's stint in prison last year, a four-part All-Access series starting April 10 as well as a prime-time special on CBS on April 27.

Independent producer Ross Greenburg, a former president of HBO Sports who produced Mayweather documentaries for HBO, will for the first time be involved in Showtime boxing programming.

What Showtime has lined up seems like the type of programming HBO pioneered to hype its fights.

"It should feel a little different than what we did at HBO," Greenburg tells USA TODAY Sports. "But it's still about following the obvious major stories around this fight. And you have a built-in reality TV star in Floyd Mayweather."

As DVRs become more common, live programming becomes more important to advertising driven networks. People watching a live broadcast can't fast forward through the advertisements.

Boxing, compared to major American sports, is pretty cheap to produce and air. Plus, it has built in slots for ads. It is perfect for the networks.

This is the best time in the last 20-30 years for boxing to return to network television.
