mayweather has been accused of fighting negatively all his career.

then as soon as he changes to a more combative, exciting style. he gets accused of losing it, or even being exposed.

he fought a pretty much prime miguel cotto at his natural weight in a style suites cotto and beat him comfortably, mixing skill, finesse, ring generalship and now adding aggression and courage.

ive been a mayweather critic in the past but after this performance i respect him a whole lot more.

i would argue that this miguel cotto is maybe better with his extra experience. he doesn't seem to have lost too much speed or agility. i actually think he is in his prime.

people seem to forget cotto only has 2 previous defeats on his record and both are extremely dubious and one he even avenged.

personally i think the pacman fight we saw maybe a 70% miguel cotto. being weight drained to such an extreme extent can not be underestimated. it reduces your punch resistance dramatically.

cotto is a beast in the ring and at 154 he is fighting his peak weight. mayweather met him in the centre of the ring, slipped his punches, at times backed him up and caught him with every punch in the book.

sure he got caught quite a bit but thats because cotto is very good. simple as that!

i seem to remember ali and sugar ray robinson having some tough fights now and again.

Always knew Cotto's style would give Mayweather trouble and force him to fight a different style. Just didn't expect Cotto to look that good and focused after damaging losses.

I don't think Cotto is in his prime but I think he's sort of "B-hopped" and whilst he's slide slightly in terms of some physical skills (i.e. he's no longer able to take quite the same amount of punishment and he appears to cut easier) he's mentally developed and has developed in terms of skills.

he just came off a good stoppage win.... he's not the type to crumble after tough fights, especially the pacquiao fight where he was seriously weight drained.

the big question for me concerning mayweather was whether he would fight a legit world level opponent, at there prime weight. for me he's done that now.

not only that but he's more exciting and aggresive than ever and doing it all with absolutely no question about steroid abuse, because unlike pacman he takes urine AND blood tests.

the guy deserves way more respect.

yeah seeing hios evolution as a fighter is impressive. unlike bhop he doesnt just resort to completely negative tactics. he's actually become more aggressive. noone can call his style cowardly anymore. the fact he's willing to stand in the line of fire and take punches shows some balls.

if he continues in the fasion and gets the pacquaio scalp maybe someone like martinez or alverez. id put him in my top 5 ATG.

never thought id say that but he's starting to measure up to that kind of crowd.

    :huh

Are you saying he has never fought aggressive before ?

And that his previous fighting tactics are "cowardly" ?

first, the way he fought most of his career was "SMART." That's what the "Sweet Science/Hit and don't get hit" is all about. That's why he lasted as long as he has.

He has stood toe to toe in the past. And he was more aggressive at times in the past. But its just not the preferred style because its not the smart thing to do. Now does it make it more enjoyable for the crowd ? YES. of course. But nobody should knock him with the way he has chosen to fight.

If he had decided to continue on out-boxing Cotto in the center of the ring I would have been just as pleased with that. Now if he could have or he chose to...I don't know. He still isn't his young self anymore. I think if they had met at 140 years ago it would have looked different and Floyd wouldn't have chosen or forced to fight this way.

But I also think his age an inactivity has caught up to him and his continually decline will help make his fights more enjoyable.

First of all I think Floyd carried Cotto if you look at the fight you can tell

no noyt saying he never fought aggressively, but he's certainly become much more aggressive on a more contsant basis. mayweather always preffered to stay out of danbger if he could. but now he is puposely putting himself iun the line of fire. you cant deny his style has changed.

and no IM not saying he's cowardly but some people were.... look dude im a fan, im sticking up for him.
