I think its more than just race - Floyd has always loved to play the villain, especially since the ODLH fight. It pays the bills for sure.

BTW the race baiting in this thread by the threadstarter is kind of weak..

this is pretty much spot on. He is a smart guy he knows that hate is a very strong emotion and it motives people to a lot of things . . . like buying a PPV to see the guy hate just in case he might lose. Or spend thousands to say that you where there.

His style doesn't make people eager to see him fight live in person.

His fanbase is situated more towards the East.

i understand what u mean, but im talking about how the whole crowd is against him in vegas.

this is boxing, a sport where race has alot to do with your fanbase. all im saying is, if he were to fight in a city like DC, Detroit or Atlanta against someone like Ortiz, i guarantee he'd have a huge turn out and be the favorite.

i can tell u that most of us like mayweather and order his fights regularly. hes the talk of the town when he has a fight coming up. i happen to live in LA, so Vegas is just a couple of hours away but there no way black people from the eastcoast or down south are gonna fly on a plane just to see a fight unless theyre ballin. why go through all that when u can just order it?

black people like to save money and are not big spenders like filipino fans and hatton fans.

You got that right. I'm a New Yorker, and we will order his fights, but I'm not comin out to Vegas to watch, when I can chill at the crib and watch in comfort on HD. Now if he was fighting at the Garden....

I def agree. Floyd has a very strong fan base among black people, the black community has always been good in supporting their athletes. My point was more that people are rooting against him because he plays the villain role and wants them too, rather than because he is black.

Also agree with you about race being a big issue in boxing. I remember when I was in HS and FLoyd/ODLH went down our basketball coach (majoriy black team, I grew up in LA as well) told us to stay inside because some mexican gang members had made announcements than if FLoyd won, they would go out that night and shoot black kids. Pretty sad. I mean, Ill admit I troll some people online for fun but Im never serious, its sad how far some people take it

boxing definately brings out the violence :yep

as for the shooting black kids part? wtf? there would have definately been a riot @ my school if those comments were made.
