yer a moron....oscar was not "guaranteed" 53 million dollars....that was what he made off the fight after the numbers came in and got his percentage....and floyd took home 25.... floyd was guaranteed 32 mil with ppv upside...if it doesnt do expected numbers he sees no upside and just takes his guarantee.....even at 800+k they take home enough to pay both fighters in just that revenue alone....live gate was big...sponsorships....plus closed circuit revenue.....they may not have made a ton of money...maybe they lost some...but it if was a loss...it wasnt anything they havent already made with the canelo fight...and having floyd help promote showtime boxing is worth it in the long run 53 and 25 were what oscar and floyd took home after everything....those were not guarantees lets call floyd/canelo 2.4....the guerrero/maidana fights 800k each....thats 4 mil buys right? sound fair? 4mil x 65 bucks well call it ....thats 260 mil in ppv revenue....slice it in half thats 130 mil......thats enough to cover floyds guarantees plus the opponents and undercards.....all of floyds money in revenue doesnt just come from ppv revenue...when floyd says he still getting checks its because he has merchandise/concession cuts....there is other revenue....gates/sponsorships people act as if all of floyds guarantee comes directly from showtime money...it doesnt
floyd's first ppv fight was against gatti in '05. pac's first ppv fight was against morales in the rematch in '06. floyd has 2 of the biggest ppv fights in history against dlh and canelo. pac has had a nice run...but side by side...mayweather does better numbers. all of this means **** because i don't get a single fcuking penny for any of it.
floyd-querrero was like 12mil in the red. floyd-madonna 854,000 x $65 = 55,510,000 55,510,000 /2 = 27,755,000 est ppv revenue floyd's guaranteed purse 32,000,000. there ain't no way he's getting any share from that number.
Fonzie i respect your opinion but don't be so naive. People lie all the time about how well things are doing, the stock market is littered with companies with inflated values, they sure as hell aren't going to admit their mine has dick all. I know they did well on the canelo fight but if this fight only did say 900k, I don't see how they make a dime. The split from ppv would only pay for the fighters, never mind all the other costs. The gate can only generate so much and sponsors don't give as much as people think.
900,000 is not a good number when they pay one fighter 40,000,000 dollars. And he is the number 1 draw. 900,000 is good for a 10-15 million dollar fighter.
Doesn't matter if SHO loses money on Floyd (and they are losing money, big time). It's more about taking money from HBO and also building their subscriber base. The plan is a good one and is worth losing a good amount of money.
Of course they arent. Its CBS mothership that underwrites Mayweather's guarantees not SHO Sports Division. I'm sure SHO Sports turns a nice operating profit off the fights. Its quite possible that CBS loses a few million on some fights, but multibillion dollar conglomerates dont sweat that kind of investment in a brand, and thats what nabbing Floyd for CBS/SHO was. A brand investment. Some people dont get that though.
It's about ego. Manny knows he will get $16 million on the back-end regardless. Floyd makes a show of the enormous $32 million check, and definitely he is richer than Pacquiao.
I think people fail to understand the relationship between buys and profit. When Canelo fought Angulo, the card did only 350k buys. Canelo's purse was only $1.5 million, plus incentives that lead to around $5,000,000 total. So that leaves $5 million more to spread around and the enterprise is a success. Cotto/Martinez might only do 500,000 buys, but expect Top Rank and HBO to come out fine.
