He should have never had the opportunity to fight Mayweather at 140 in my opinion. This is the problem I have with Mayweather. He claims to be the WW Champ but has not fought a WW since winning the title. He fought at 154 and now fought a JWW who has only 1 fight at 147 ( a near miss win vs Collazo). Fight williams, fight cotto, fight a young, hungrey true welter. Props to Ricky, but as we found out last year, he is a 140 lb fighter.
If I was Ricky, I would take a rematch... under the conditions that the fight take place at 140, and in the UK.
An old De La Hoya would have a better chance on winning a rematch than Hatton. Ricky needs to move back to 140 and stay there for the rest of his carrer, which can still be a fine one.
He didn't say that, that is a cut/paste misquote. He said that he always wanted to fight in the UK, but since he didn't, he brought the best of the UK here. There would not be a rematch clause for the challenger, the champion is the one that gets the clause in the event he were to lose.
I honestly just wouldnt be able to motivate myself if i was hatton now, how can you go from the biggest fight on earth last night to fighting a malignaggi? i dunno i just dont see there being much left for him to do.
Thats why I think he'll give himself a year or so to try to improve then make sure the rematch gets made.
Have you seen Ricky recently? He ain't that "lickle"anymore. Never happen in a thousand years, he's too happy promoting nights, training fighters and eating pies whilst watching reruns of Only Fools and Horses!
