Pointless thread. Anyway: The event was open to the public. Someone in attendance claimed 233 fans attended. "You could hear a rat **** on Cotton." 20 members of the media were there. Half of which were people from youtube.
Im gonna be real interested to see what the PPV numbers are on this. I know the Trinidad-RJJ fight was mentioned as over 500,000, but that was 2 years ago Trinidad was obviously part of the draw, no arguing that he has a huge fan base But since that time RJJs lost to Calzaghe, he had the 2nd comeback of sorts, then got KOed by Danny Green The hype is pretty much gone on RJJ being a force at 175 BHop had a career defining victory with Pavlik, but since then his lone fight was Enrique Ornelas. And that wasnt exactly a barn burner This could very well be a financial disaster for everyone involved
Apparently Jones-Lacy lost money, so I wouldn't hold my breath on this being a box office smash and 500K came from the Trinidad fight, which half of NYC would order is Trinidad was fighting Eric Crumble. So for this to be successful 200K has to be sold, that is considered mission accomplished IMO. Any word on who is running the show for the PPV? I know Golden Boy is apparently running the entire PPV so who is announcing?
I'm going to guess it doesn't even make it to 200k. I'm thinking if they make 100k it's mission accomplished.
As much as I like them both, that's what happens when you wait so long to give the fans what they want.
they should have put this fight on ABC, NBC, FOX....It's a perfect type of fight for those channels...Alot more people would watch, especially if they had advertised the fight during the super bow,l up past the winter olympics, and during the final four!!!
