MGM to host Mayweather-Hatton Article from: This content is protected </IMG> August 18, 2007 12:00am FLOYD Mayweather will put his welterweight world title on the line against England's Ricky Hatton in a battle of unbeatens at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on December 8, promoters confirmed today. Mayweather is 38-0 with 24 knockouts and the reigning World Boxing Council welterweight champion. Hatton, 43-0 with 31 knockouts, moves up to the 147-pound (66.7kg) division for only the second time in his career. Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions announced today that tickets for the fight would go on sale on September 17. "Even though this fight is months away, everyone is already talking about it and breaking it down, trying to figure out who has the edge,'' de la Hoya said. "It's a great clash of styles between Mayweather and Hatton and I think that translates into a memorable fight that will go down in history as one of the great ones.'' Mayweather, who most recently defeated de la Hoya here, was delighted with the venue. "I love Vegas, I love the fans and I'm going to show Ricky Hatton that he can't come into my house and try to take what's mine.'' Contracts for the bout were signed earlier this month, with Hatton's father Ray saying the 28-year-old English fighter was set to receive the biggest purse of his career, $US16 million ($A20 million) dollars, for taking on the 30-year-old Mayweather, who shelved his retirement plans to make the superfight.
Even though this isn't Aussie boxing related but I'm going to keep this one here so you Aussie fans can discuss freely, but any more of that and I'll have to send it to the Boxing Forum or Lounge if necessary. Have fun.
I think it will be the ugliest fight of the year with not many punches landing for either guy. The ref and his holding interpretation will play a crucial role in whether Hatton can win this fight. Mayweather by UD
GRRRRR..... Should be OK anyway...... They both probably wish they were Aussie. Tell you what..... We will swap you an EelsRule..... a Choc# ......ozziebutt****er....and a couple of other scrotum suckers for anyone in the general Forum that you care to name....... Even ****ing Rainbowboy licks less arse than these pathetic ****ers. :yep
Mayweather will win but I hope Hatton will do a number on him he is a class act Ricky. The press junket comming up next month is going to be fun.
Dont like either fighter but I truly think Hatton will take this fight by UD or Late TKO. The style he has will really pisse floyd off bigtime and force him to open up and if he does open up that gives Hatton the chance to ko him. I truly dont see Hatton having that much of a hard night in defeating Floyd and i know people will think i am talking 5hit lol and maybe i am. In the end though i truly think at this very moment he will have a easy nights work and will beat Floyd easily.
Hatton will give mayweather the toughest fight in his career leaving pbf bruised and battered. Still mayweather will get a very controversial points victory, and the topic of this bout will continue to annoy me as it will never go away.. Also another prediction.. OZTRIKER will best his previous mark and take on 10dicks at once, hence living up to his title as the biggest poo pirate in esb history.. You want to start a poll oztriker???lol You are the biggest nerd gay *** homo ever.
I'm thinking it wil be a boring fight, Maywether wil jab, Hatton will lunge in and miss then they will tie up, repeat over 12 rounds and Mayweather gets the decision with the 6 jabs thrown and landed per round.
I'm picking a Hatton win on points. I think Hatton has the tenacity, fitness, strength and determination to do to PBF what Castillo and DLH tried to do but didn't succeed at. Hatton is young and in his prime, and his pressure is ****ing relentless. He is happy to take some punches in order to get inside and do his business, and he has a good chin, so I can't see PBF making Hatton respect his power. I think Hatton hurts PBF early in the fight - rds 3-4 - and PBF stays away from him for the rest of the fight. I think the judges will award the fight to Hatton for the early damage he does to PBF, and won't be fooled by PBF's usual potshot and run tactics to coast to a points win, and will instead reward Hatton for being the aggressor. I just have a feeling about this fight, looking forward to it immensely.
I'm thinking a lot will depend on how the ref decides to police the fight. If it's similar to how the Tszyu/Hatton fight was run than Hatton will have somewhat of a chance. But I'm still leading towards a Mayweather win. I hope I'm wrong though.
