Everybody likes to say Tszyu was old for his fight with Hatton, but Tszyu just completely destroyed Sharmba Mitchell far worse than he did in his unification match previously. He knocked down Mitchell 4 times in 3 rounds and left him with a big knot on his head. Total destruction of a top 140 lb contender and former champ.

Hatton did not have anything Floyd could not handle. Floyd is a few levels above Hatton.
There are some other fights where ref style helped Floyd, but Hatton had no hope no matter the ref.

Mayweather fans are not being honest if they can't admit Hatton would have had much more of a chance with a ref that allowed him to do inside work.

That was Hattons game, and Cortez was on the Mayweather payroll he was at Hatton all night 'Ricky Ricky Ricky'. Hatton said it felt like he was fighting two guys in there Mayweather and the ref. Never seen a referee interfere so much.

Mayweather would still be favourite, but with a different referee that would be a different fight no doubt.

Mitchell was beating other top jr welterweights. He was one of the top guys at 140 lbs at the time.

Ricky Hatton wasn't much of a welterweight. I remember at the time thinking Luis Collazo edged him.

Mayweather stopped Hatton pretty convincingly. Not sure that the referee mattered all that much.

Maybe, but people have critisize Ward for being rough and people believe Hatton wasn't allowed to fight his fight against Mayweather. Couldn't tell you if there are some hypocrites on ESB.

Hatton never really lived the life , he ballooned up and down in weight , was too emotional as a fighter & his heart would overrule his head.. The more I watch of Ricky the more I think he's actually underrated but he'd always struggle to beat a boxer as good as Mayweather, that said he was definitely hindered that night by the referee there is no doubt about that.. Collazo is mentioned in this thread and I think he doesn't get the credit for that win that he deserves because people say it was a gift but it really wasn't.. The guy jumped up to another division and fought a skilled operator and took his title, it was competitive but I think Ricky took seven rounds plus got a knockdown, I've never bought the idea that it was a gift at all, he legit beat him for me..
