first article has nothing on what Floyd said and barely even has anything about what Cotto(e) said second article is a rumor in a foreign publication Floyd Jr has said zero lately about a possible Cotto(e) bout. emmanuel can only duck for so long troll fails
Arum is on record as saying he would like to make the fight would be without BOTH Golden Boy and Al Hayman. He's on record as saying that. Yes I have made assumptions, that's why I said it's a possibility and not a reality. We don't know what the reality is You do realise Koncz working for Arum is a conflict of interest as a Pacquaio representative?
Should Mayweather fight guys based on what he thinks of them, or based on what people want to see? Because to be honest, he's made harsh criticism of Pacquiao, and stated that he thought Marquez beat Pacquiao. Should he not be considering a fight with Pacquiao as a result?
Ok, here's how it works: Right now, Floyd-friendly publications are putting out "feelers" about a possible Cotto fight. Kind of like a trial balloon, to see that the response is. So, they're pumping up Cotto. And talking about how Cotto should jump ship and possibly fight Floyd, like the one FH link I put in. To see further what I mean, look here: http://fighthype.com/pages/content11372.html Cotto looked good in the fight, etc. Now, the Spanish language report doesn't say it is based on "rumors." It says "according to reports." So, putting 2 and 2 together, here's what it looks like to me: Mayweather might meet with Team Cotto at the WBC convention. Media friendly to Team Mayweather is putting it out there that Cotto may want to leave Arum so that he can fight Mayweather. However -- and this is against the Team Mayweather cause, if they want a Cotto fight -- Cotto said after Margo II that Arum is his promoter forever, or whatever. So, what you have then is a hedged bet, it seems. If Mayweather can make the Cotto fight, talk Cotto into ditching Top Rank to fight him, then maybe he does so. However, if that can't get done, then you won't hear a lot more about this possible fight. It's kind of a plausible deniability situation. Nobody wants to say they were pursuing a fight they didn't get made. Keep your eyes and ears open. There's a lot more going on than you might think, but you have to be aware of it to see it.
Mayweather can fight whomever he wants to fight, for whatever reason, and forum posters such as myself can point out potential inconsistencies in Mayweather's -- or other fighters' -- past statements with regard to possible future fights. If Floyd wants to fight a guy who Floyd thinks was beaten by Clottey, far be it from me to stop him. Here's something else Floyd said about Cotto: SOURCE: http://bit.ly/vct0e7 Hey, if Floyd thinks his fans want to see apparently-uncompetitive fights, then that's what he should make. Some fans might think Martinez could provide more opposition than the seemingly-outgunned Cotto, but that's for them to decide, I guess.
The majority of Floyd fans dont want to see him fight a top rank hype job Paula. We consider all Top Rank fighters hype jobs.
Mayweather's description of Cotto and how he'd see his punches coming is really how I see this going down. Cotto gets off to pretty quick starts now and I think he'd do well for a couple rounds with his jab, movement, and underrated hand speed. But once Mayweather gets a feel for what Cotto brings, gets his timing down, and starts landing the straight right with regularity, the fight's over. Cotto would probably begin to move more and more once he tastes some uppercuts on the inside. I'd root for Cotto, but aside from a perfect debilitating body punch or something along those lines, he's not handing Mayweather his first loss. No way. He's too basic of a technician with too many holes defensively.
So did most people here at the time. Since the Pacquiao/Clottey fight however, you rarely hear it mentioned.
PBF should fight Pac. bottom line. I had Cotto winning against Clottey in a close fight. Clottey was always an underrated WW.
Cotto is a one handed fighter. Floyds defense is best at neutralizing the left hook. And thats really the only punch Cotto has in his arsenal. Can anyone think of a left hook landing against Floyd in his career from an orthodox fighter?
