In the news of the world :
Mayweather Snr, 55, who will join Team Hatton early next month sneered: “What can you learn from hitting a pillow?

“That is what you punch when you’re in a bad mood, not what you hit to prepare for the best fighters. I’ll have two months preparing him and that will be more than enough time to get him ready for Malignaggi and to bust his a**e.

“He will pressure Malignaggi but he’ll do it in a smart way.”

How is Mayweather going to improve Hatton?

Hatton should have got a different trainer. Ronny Shields seems like an good trainer for him.

I have a lot respect for Mayweather Sr. and Roger mayweather. Wish I could say the same for PBF. I am a Malignaggi fan. I am worried now that Mayweather sr is there.

Mayweather will help him mentally. Boxing is all mental. Every sport is. Its kind of like being a great quarterback or a general on a battle field. He will teach Hatton to see everything in the ring, and to stick with a solid game plan that really works, and know when to attack and win. I tell you, I'm worried now for Paulie.

I think Sr. knows his stuff. He puts a lot of emphasis on boxing fundamentals and fighting an intelligent fight. Something Ricky as a pressure fighter could work on. I think we will see an improved version of Hatton against Malignaggi. Using his jab again, slipping to the inside to land body punches. Who knows, he might even start moving his head (gasp!).

Agreed, I do not think Mayweather SR was the appropriate choice. Hatton has a pressure style, Mayeather teaches a defense and counterpunching style. Totally different.

Shields would have been a much better choice.

It is difficult for none-smart fighters to fight smart.

Hatton is heart and stamina. Not smartness.

First he asks fat Guzman to land left hooks all the time during sparring and teach Ricky how to defend the shot that knocked him out and rocked him vs. Lazcano.

Then some new defensive techniques, picking up the shots with the gloves, head and upper body movement etc. Then IMO a bit of timing work to land the bombs in the right time.

That should be enough vs. Malignaggi.
