Corrales was that good for a certain class of fighter. As I said before Floyd was/is an atg. My point is that an atg can only be judged against other atgs, not fighters such as Corrales, Judah, Gatti, Baldomir. Floyd vs Cotto Floyd vs Margo Floyd vs Mosley Floyd vs Pacquaio These were the fights any real champ would have already fought. So yes, Corrales was good, but not great, not great enough to mention in the man's prime when he should be facing the best of the best.
It doesn't matter if Floyd fights Pac now. He wasted prime years and I doubt he'll stick around much longer. He blew it. Blew greatness.
Corrales and Castillo were the best of the best. They were the best 2 fighters at 130-135 of their generation. The only 2 guys that qualify on that list as ATG's are Mosley and Pacquiao. And I sincerely doubt Floyd came out of retirement and wont fight one of those 2 or both.
Let me put it this way. Hoya could have come out of lightweight and claimed himself the best lightweight ever. He did a spectaculour job in that division and would have had many believers. But he went through the whole welterweight division and fought Mosley and this revealed his vulnerabilites. Mosley could have rested on his work at lightweight also. But he went up to face Hoya and beat him. He could have rested there and called himself the best ever but then he faced Forrest. Duran could have stopped after his first defeat of Leonard and he would have been hailed the best ever because of his work at lightweight. There's a pattern to all of this. Mayweather wasn't the only fighter who excelled at lightweight and junior welter. It's what you do after that counts.
He's completely right - Ali relied on his physical advantages over 90% of his competition, only Ken Norton (same size) and George Foreman are notable guys who had boxing skill of some degree as well as being the same size as Ali. On a pure boxing basis? Floyd is a better practitioner in the ring than Ali ever was. Ali is the superior entertainer, no question.
:good:good:good. true. srl, duran, hearns, hagler fought against fellow atgs and won some, lost some. that is the measure of greatness, to seek challenges. we can shout till we are hoarse and proclaim that corrales, bless his soul, is an atg. which i doubt he is. he was darn good fighter but just a notch below hof's and atg. sure he was 33-0 when they met. heck, jcc jr. is undefeated and what is is record? its not the "0" in your record but ultimately the level of competition that you faced. the only prime opponent on pbf resume would be corrales. hernandez and dlh were clearly past their prime when they met pbf. gatti? hatton who went up in weight. pbf had one of the best skill sets in this generation of fighters, just not the resume to back it up. and truly he wasted a lot of years instead of cementing his legacy as one of the greatest.
Chavez. Famoso, Castillo, Hatton, Judah, were all prime when FLoyd beat them. Castillo was the best 135lber in the world when Floyd beat him and would go on to have a great career after the fact. And Hatton didnt go up in weight. Dont know how many times this has to be explained to you. He weighed the same against Floyd has he normally does at 147.
oops, i forgot castillo. so that makes castillo, corrales. way past prime dlh. hatton. gatti. throw in zab judah. clearly, the level of prime opposition, prime meaning both in skills/age and level of competition is really thin if we dissect pbf's resume. such a waste of talent in my opinion. i think he could have busted cotto and mosley. pbf-dlh was a snoozefest and anyone who thinks to the contrary is either blind or plain stupid. the world awaits. . . . . . . . . yup. the world awaits my ass.
when i said prime opponent, that is in context of prime opposition at the same time, age/skillset. corrales and castillo granted. famoso??? chavez?? do these two even qualify as HOF's? genaro who was what 32/33 years old when they fought? and no, hatton is a true jww. they fought at ww. so regardless of what you say, hatton came up in weight to fight pbf.
