Im so tired of the same threads everyday. The way some people dissect a fighters resume can be done to everyone. Mayweather is not to blame for if and when fights happen or if they dont, the other fighter has to get and the ring and sign the contract as well.

1)Mayweather is the best fighter in the world pound for pound

    a) 19-0 in title fights and beat undefeated Corrales whom was stripped of his IBF belt to face him same for Shane and WBA belt

    b) Has defeated defeated 9 champions in all his last 9 fights...and 16 overall...more than any active fighter or p4p entrant

    c) defeated a hall of famer in his first title fight at 21, possibly the greatest junior lightweight ever

    d) the most effective offense in history meaning he hits and doesnt get hit, he has records

    e) screw writers, but boxers, trainers and all contemporaries agree he is the most skilled fighter in the world

    f) Has been fighting on HBO in big fights before all of his contemporaries and has been on the big stage since the late 90's has lost no belts in the ring.

    That's right.

He is 35 years old. This is a serious fight.

I don't know why people on this site are dismissing Cotto like he's nothing.

Cotto can box, move, punch a little, and he has quick hands, great balance, and one of the best PFP jabs in the sport.

    Styles make fights.

This is a serious fight. I know Mayweather is the favorite, and he should be, but he is getting older, and Cotto in my opinion, is looking better than ever.

Cotto may not be in his physical prime either, but he's not too far out of it, and he has more weapons and tricks than he had when he fought the likes of Mosley and Margarito the first time.

I would say Ortiz, due to his size and youth was also a tough fight, but this is probably the best opponent when all is said and done, especially from a stylistic perspective, since DLH, for Mayweather.

So I don't think anybody should just write Cotto off.

Mayweather has aged no doubt. People act like the guy is not human. That's why his next fight will be better than most expect.

Floyd has been on vacation while Pac and Cotto have been fighting and wearing out there bodies.

They are older in fight years.

    The end.

I like how Mayweather as a prospect went straight for a legit title rather than a trinket belt.

I agree. And this will be the first fight that will show the world how great Mayweather really is. We shall see.

    A) Cotto has had less total fights than Floyd.

    B) If Cotto/Pac is older in "ring years" it is their own fault for taking punishment and not having great defense.

Because Pac and Cotto were fighting (Top Rank approved) beasts like Margo, Mayorga, and old man Mosley.

Floyd has just been fighting school teachers, silently waiting for these younger men to age, so that way, by the time Floyd is 40, he will be ready for them. :nut

I think it could be a great fight.

I don't know Mayweather's strategy, but if I were him, I would try to turn it into as dull a fight as possible, and keep it in the center of the ring, but even then, Cotto has a great jab and throws in combinations.

Mayweather does have excellent defense, but some shots will slip through, so it could potentially be a great fight.

If Floyd somehow manages to just shut Cotto down completely, I think he should be given a hell of a lot of credit.

I'm excited about this fight. I'm not upset about the choice of opponent or anything.

I think this is a good fight for boxing.

its just the *******s that cant deal with the fact that hes the greatest of this era. he gets old like anyone else, and hes definately past prime. his haters just dont want to give him the benefit of the doubt of the aging excuse, just in case he loses a fight.

them saying a 35 year old is still prime and waiting for a 30 year old to get old just tells u how much superior they think floyd is compared to manny. hell, the only person they think can beat Floyd is a MIDDLEWEIGHT. :rofl

well based on ring age and damage and wars, pac and cotto has alot of it while floyd preserved himself by taking long vacations and fighting once a year. floyd should have taken on cotto way back in 2008 while he should have taken on pac back in 2010 or even early 2011. both are way past their best now while floyd still is good because of his style of fighting and those retirements.

:good honestly tthis is the best shot Cotto has to win...at 140 he wouldve got embarassed with that peek a boo stiff puncher style....he has a better shot now because he has better boxing skills and remains a viable puncher

Mayweather has avoided the wear and tear while Cotto, Moseley and Pac were thrilling fight fans. The fact that he is willing to take them on now that they are in obvious decline, but didn't make the fights a few years ago speaks for itself.
