non-speed offensive fighters. George Foreman style. Pac is going to be a lot less effective when he has "normal" speed, and that might be starting to happen. Guys who entirely rely on speed tend not to age well - you never used to see lightweights successful over the age of like 32, historically.

Most other fighters aren't obsessive gym rats. Gotta give Floyd credit for that.

With the shape Mayweather keeps himself in, I don't think it hurts him much, if at all. He is an incredible gym rat. It's not like he is taking time off for injury or to recover from a tough fight nor does he need to cut much weight when he gets into serious camp.

I think he would be sharper if he stayed more active. However, he would also be more injured. It's a trade off, and his skillset may actually make it beneficial for him to fight so little. Other fighters probably benefit more from taking more bumps but staying active. As far as Leonard, he was supposedly fighting real fights behind closed doors before getting in there with Hagler.

:patsch DO you really need to have it explained why AGE isn't the only indicator of prime or a fighters' physical condition? Maybe think things through before calling people a ******. :thumbsup

SO BASIcally what your saying is Mayweather was gonna be the favorite against anyone...of course he was whether today or yesterday...also most of their common opponents Mayweather fought them first...Hatton, Mosley, ODLH, Marquez fought Manny at 38 and barely beat him...Mayweather is gonna be favored over anyone he faces 147 on down...is that his fault he has dominated the sport and is 42-0 won all title fights...he is just that great and some fools wont admit it, who cares if he is an ******* i dont

I don't understand what you're trying to say. You guys are basically penalizing him because he works hard.

    According to this forum:

Mayweather is impervious to ring rust.

When Mayweather takes time off: he's resting and this helps him where as if anybody else takes time off: it hurts them.

Honestly Mayweather should get more credit if he beats Cotto...a better weight for Cotto....A real title the WBA...I dont recognize the WBOgus as much...Cotto has looked good in his last fights unlike when he faced Manny....people for get its not who you beat, but when and the weight

  13. The fact that Mayweather is aging too... is exactly why I like the Cotto fight. In Mayweather's one fight at 154, he barely edged an old ODLH. He's 5 years older now and I think this Cotto is better than that Oscar.

I won't go as far as to pick Cotto though

So now you're penalizing him for staying in shape? WTF. So it's his fault that he works hard and stays in shape?

Dedication is just as important as talent.

Btw Mayweather is 35 now, and he is better than any of those fighters were at this age.

Those two statements are mutually exclusive.

However, I think Mayweather is an extraordinary case when it comes to his time off. He is not recoverring from a significant injury or even a tough fight nor is he letting himself balloon in weight.

In Mayweather's case, he is keeping in great physical shape without taking any punishment. Not fighting is keeping him fresh.
