Yeah he beat legends like Liston, Paterson, Frazier, Foreman never ducked anyone beat the best in 60s best in 70s, ruled heavyweight division with 2 totally different styles (since he didnt have the legs after 3 years lay off) and this fighter is overrated by your standards, its a good think 99% of boxing world doesnt agree with you!!!

 

Ali was one of the USA's most hated athletes and persons when he refused Vietnam. Now, 3-5 decades later- Ali is one the the most beloved athletes and stands as a symbol.

Mayweather is one of boxings/ usa's most hated athletes for his out-of-ring persona. Time will be very kind to Floyd as people look back and realize the ring genius he was. He certainly will NOT achieve the super-stardom of Ali without mixing in some political aspirations/ beliefs.

on a parallel note this similar to Tupac Shakur. His legend and myth grew exponentially after his untimely exit (death) from the trade.

 

The only thing that can make this thread worse is a ******* using the theory that if floyd=ali and pacman>floyd that makes pacman better than ali.

Mayweather is basically a great fighter that people constantly think about. He must be something special. You guys ever notice that no matter who he fights its not a good match-up. People expect him to win every fight and don't even notice it. He's beaten undefeated fighters, legends, and hot fighters coming off there biggest wins. To say he cherrypicks every opponent is only to say no one is on his level.

 

To be good at it you should atleast have some blackness.

For instance if you had some blackness you would have said?

"Mayweather? Who is this bum? Im knocking out all bums! Im tellin ya the boys in trouble! He gonna be under the weather when I get through with him! Ima show you how great I am!"

 

They are/were disliked for different reasons. Ali's was political and even if you did not agree with his stances, you had to respect the fact that he was willing to stand up despite losing his reputation, titles, and livelihood.

Mayweather is the polar opposite. He is viewed as a ducker who won't fight the most dangerous men on the planet but hits women and threatens children. There is nothing to respect about that.

Of course, Ali fought the best in a great era while Mayweather has consistently avoided the huge fight. Sports fans do tend to gloss over the personal failures of athletes with great accomplishment. But, the difference in perception, IMO, is that Ali was disliked but respected.

 

He also lacks the wins over a Sonny Liston level opponent (as well as Patterson if you wanna get down to it, even if he was past his best).
