Collazo just went toe to toe with one of the "elites" at Welter in Andre Berto. Hell hatton did better then berto did except for the 11th round. You just cant dismiss Hatton on Floyds resume, especially considering they would have weighed the same if they fought at 140 rather then 147.

I am quite surprised so many people were offended by this thread.Did not know the mayweather fan club was so big on ESB.

Again, I maintain that there are a few points that go against Mayweather in terms of legacy:

-He retired at age 30 in his prime. That is just not the mentality of a real fighter and true ATG. It shows that he has become a business man.

    - He spent a few years fighting weak competition which was tolerated by HBO.

    - He left unfinished business behind him in the welterweight division. I am personally not convinced at a how he beats the likes Maragarito and Cotto...

    - I don't doubt his accomplishments and his ability to fight.
But in terms of resumee, he ranks behind Toney, Hopkins and Jones
He has won a lot of alphabetic titles but they don't mean as much as back in the day.

-Although face to face comparision with other ATG: guys like Benitez, Whitaker and Duran would have beaten him.

    Conclusion:

    - Mayweather is certainly not a top 50 ATG. He is borderline. Arguments could be provided that he is Top 100. But again the list is highly subjectif and it depends on the criterias used. Wordl class trainer Emmanuel steward alsp stated omn several occasions that Mayweather is not an ATG.

Maybe I was pushing it a little bit to far with the Hatton fght, but personally I would have loved to see that fight again with a different referee. Probably Mayweather wins this one anyway.

I think that post is a pretty damn fair assessment. Although I don't think any ref could have saved Hatton......made him look better, yes, but he could not have won that fight that night.

First of all, Mayweather fought only one time at 154 and that against a guy who started out several weight classes below.

Then, Mayweather did not fought the elite of the welterweight (147 pounds).

Toney on the other hand started out at 156 and fights now in his late 30's and removed from his prime natural heavyweights weighing 240 pounds, that is quite a differnce isn't it?

    wow...stick out to who???

    he destroyed arturo gatti
    he destroyed ricky hatton
    he destroyed zab judah
    he destroyed baldomir
    he destroyed angel manfredy

not wins but EASY wins and destructions

he beat famoso hernandez with a broken hand
    he stopped jesus chavez
he annihilated genaro henandez as a kid
he decisively beat a bigger ODLH at a heavier weight

he has never been hurt...never been knocked down (aside from when he broke his hand)

    he is a masterclass boxer

    21 title fights

    14 champions beaten

6 world title is 5 different weight classes

    39 wins

    0 losses

    = all time great

He once was, but boxing is no more blood because he did not fight the many challenges in the welterwwight division. He has become more and more of a business man because he went after the money fighting DH instead of the elite of the welterweight division. It just hurts his legacy, that is all what I am saying. Doug Fischer from maxboxing said the same thing. Emanuel steward stated that Mayweather is not an ATG. I am not going so far because there are arguments he could be ranked in the top 100.

I am being misunderstood here. Personally I understand that you quite at 30 because this sport is so tough and training is very hard. It is just that he has no longivity and that hurts his legacy in comparision with the other ATG.

-The boxers you name are very good (not great except perhaps DH)fighters but Mayweather retired very early. The O does not mean much if you retire at 30. Sooner or later Mayweather would have lost just like the invincible RJJ and many others.Maybe that would have happened against the elite of the welterweight division, who knows.

    - Alphabetic titles dont mean as much as back in the day.

Well, if he comes back and beats a couple elite welterweight division, that would change a lot in my book. I would rank Mayweather as a sure lock ATG then. You are right maybe his career is not finished right now.

I agree with you on 1 thing i hope he fights margo and whoever else it is that is great allegedly....I see no way margo beats him looking at their respective styles....then what??? does he have to beat cotto...and then does he have to move up for a 6th time...(margo has NEVER moved his weight) he has a better resume and is a more talented fighter than any ww out there right now
