How is Mayweather overrated when before he fought his first title shot, he fought 2 former champions. He was a world champion 2 yrs into his career, without any eliminators. 18 fights into his career he was a world champion. He's undefeated, has 14 former/current champion on his resume, 4 former/current linear champions on his resume, 3 linear titles on his resume, 20 championship fights ... the list goes on and on and on ... He entered the ring as the challenger 6 times and is 6-0 2KO's as a challenger in title fights. I don't know how a guy with those kinda credentials is overrated --
Theses facts speak for him, but on the other side you got to consider: - He spent a few years fighting weak competition which was tolerated by HBO. - He left unfinished business behind him in the welterweight division. I am personally not convinced that he beats the likes Maragarito and Cotto... - I don't doubt his accomplishments and his ability to fight. But in terms of resumee, he ranks behind Toney who is a top all time great himself. He has won a lot of alphabetic titles but they don't mean as much as back in the day. - He retired at age 30 in his prime. That is just not the mentality of a real fighter and true ATG. It shows that he has become a business man.The O does not mean that much when you retire that early. -Although face to face comparision with other ATG: guys like Benitez, Whitaker and Duran would have beaten him. Conclusion: - Mayweather is certainly not a top 50 ATG. He is borderline. Arguments could be provided that he is Top 100. But again the list is highly subjectif and it depends on the criterias used. World class trainer Emmanuel Steward also stated on several occasions that Mayweather is not an ATG. Doug Fischer also said that Mayweather is not an ATG.
Very true. He is atg fighter but he is no way a top 50 fighter. Whoever said this needs to go watch some boxing films. Top 100 Yes, Top 50? Hell No!:nono
