After two years in retirement, it's clear that Floyd is slightly past his best.

I can remember the Floyd Mayweather in the Gatti fight, in the Judah fight, in the Hatton fight. It was better than the Floyd that beat Shane (who is also past his best).

There are good reasons to belief that Mayweather is a bit past his prime:

    a) Check out the videos (compare 2010 Mayweather to 2000-2007 Mayweather)

    b) Mayweather is 33. 33 is not the best age for a boxer.

    c) The retirement.

I'm fairly certain that most boxing 'fans' are going to consider Mayweather is in his prime until he loses.

However, I agree with you. Mayweather isn't exactly getting younger.

He's not at his peak. I thought he seemed past it against Marquez, but he seemed much better in this fight.

Why compare his fights to Gatti? That's like saying look at Manny when he was 130 pounder. He's so slow no he must be past his prime... no of course not. I don't buy that logic.

Mayweather was a pot-shot runner at welterweight. Now he blows away a legit welterweight and pushes him back in the fight. He's in his prime, maybe not his peak I guess. It's close, though.

I agree 100%. I was thinking to myself while watching the fight: Mosley is clearly past his best here, and people are going to be using that as an excuse, but, thinking about it, Mayweather is too. He just would not have got hit with that basic first feint-to-the-body-straight-right-up-top in the second round in his prime or in the lower weights, no way. He's lost some speed too, and is much more plodding than he was.

However, I said on the other thread that he has got stronger - and I think he has. Say what you like about Mosley's condition and mental state, but Mayweather was clearly standing up to him (maybe even getting the better of him) in the clinches and up close. He's a strong Welter now.

I think he peaked somewhere around the judah-baldi fights.....However, he keeps winning.....

Same with pacquiao....I think Pacquiao peaked around the diaz fight, in the marquez 2 fight, lampley was talking about manny being past his best...

A combo of faded opposition, and natural ability has kept these guys winning, but I think they have peaked...

Its hard to tell now. I'd say he is the best Welter he has ever been. He is clearly larger and appears stronger in my opinion. As for his skills, speed, reflexes, its difficult to judge.

He may be past his prime, but to me this was his most impressive performance to date; Against a game, hall of fame opponent.

Your best win - or even performance - need not necessarly occur in your prime.

If so, he showed NO signs of that in the Mosley fight.

Mayweather has begun his decline, I agree. It is very slight, but it has started.

This was the best Mayweather I've seen in a long time. :huh

Care to break it down a bit more than "check out the videos"?

His prime was @ 130. He's still better than everyone else, but not to the same degree as when he was a superfeatherweight. He's lost footspeed and relative punching power.

However, he's a better WW now than before his retirement. His body has filled out tremendously, he's actually big enough to stand and fight with legit welters now.

You guys seriously can't have thought that Mosley would land nothing? Come on, Shane isn't ****en Gatti. The better the fighters the more chance they'd have at landing.
