Mayweather didn't start off trash talking but being humble wasn't getting him anywhere. Now before fights he trash talks and sells great numbers, so why stop doing whats making you money and creating such a buzz? The haters buy the fight to see him in hope that he loses and the fans or boxing fans in general want to see a good fight. Now one thing I must point out, if Mayweather is such an ******* why isn't he one in the ring or after fights? In the ring Mayweather has never used dirty tactics, after the fight he almost always gives praise to the fighter he beat (look at the hatton pre and post fight Mayweather to realise this) Mayweather is not scared of anyone especially not Mosley. He called Mosley out bout Mosley said no, so why the **** should Mayweather now give him one last payday? When theres potential fights with Pac or Cotto? Mayweather can seem brash outside of the ring, but its often for the camera, usually people who come from nothing to being a multi-millionaire can be affected by the money, but as the haters pick up on Mayweather "throwing money into crowds at clubs" they fail to mention how hes helping young boxers get into boxing, and giving back money into the community. In interviews ofcourse he gets pissed off, he can never win, hes clearly the arguably boxer at the moment but never gets the due credit, so when hes asked stupid questions they get treated as simply.....stupid questions! At the end of the day its simple, Mayweather is very misunderstood, but by most of the people who hate on him, its what they like to do and will always do, with that ever longing hope that he will one day lose, unfortunately i can't see it happening.
I think everyone but the most ardent haters acknowledges that its just an act. He gets the hate and controversy he wants and converts it to attention and ppv sales.
I remember his first title against Genaro Hernandez. He was very respectful and humble even in victory, crying and thanking God.
I could see why people say it's only an act. But if someone is willing to denigrate themselves to this degree to make money, well that says a hell of a lot about their character. For god's sake, have some self respect and make a few less dollars instead of playing the fool. So in the end, whether it's an act or not, it's still the actions of a low class individual. Also take a good look at Roger and Floyd Sr. Not exactly the defintion of classy individuals themselves. I think big mouths just runs in the family and it didn't skip Floyd Jr.'s generation. Misunderstood my ass. I think we all understand just a little too well.
They broke the mold when Ali came out... (Now everyone "wannabe") Alot of pretenders ever since, Jones & Mayweather are shatters of greater times.
that's a valiant way to look at it, but im sure most would consider the person who could make millions more with their personality (good or bad) as the smart one. Mayweather calls boxing a business first and foremost. His act, is part of the mayweather money making machine. he's also good for boxing no matter what anyone says. you don't see brian kenny interviewing any other top american fighters a couple of times a month. his over the top, abrasive nature is what sticks in the minds of could be fans, or borderline fans, when they flip through the channel and happen to stop clicking at a floyd mayweather interview.
Mayweather never uses dirty tactics in the ring because his strategy is to have as little action as possible. He's also fast, so there is no need for dirty tactics. On the other hand, some might say his elbowing to the throat is pretty dirty. Mayweather is a complete ******* in interviews. He also seems to have no grasp of the questions being asked. His answers are often nonsense, and belligerent. Mayweather did not "come from nothing", as you say. He may not have been a millionaire, but he did not grow up starving either. Mayweather talks up opponents after he beats them because he knows if he admits that he fought a chump, it lessesns his accomplishments. In conclusion Mayweather is indeed an *******. A talented *******, but still a huge *******.
Is Anthony Hopkins(Hannibal Lecter) a low class individual? Is Al Pacino(Godfather, Scarface...etc) a low class individual? Compare his career and the money he's made to another great fighter with a more personable attitude(and arguably more exciting), Shane Mosley. Ask yourself, who's more popular, who's made more money, who's the bigger ppv draw? Who's more appealing and recognizable to the casual audience? And why? People love him and people love to hate him but its so obvious its not his genuine personality. He does it because it makes him millions and anyone who takes what he says deeper than the surface is taking it a step to far.
He is an ass. It's not an act. Not that it matters to me, but that is who he is. It's not like he can't ever be nice, but he's an ass A LOT of the time.
No, he talks shite because he wants guys like you to pay to see him get his ass kicked. He's totally prepared to take anything fans have to say about him if and when he loses as he has said in multiple interviews. He chooses to be despised.
When you meet Floyd without the camera's/lights on...like most boxers, he is a genuine person who will shake your hand.
