    Agreed Big time ..

The man has proven that his solid grasp on the fundamentals of boxing, and hard work, can over come natural talent, and physical attributes. Im not sure how this is NOT impressive.

    By a pretty clear margin.

Although not quite ATG, I'd say Ivan Calderon is about the only flyweight who was about as feather-fisted as Canto.

And Floyd, at WW, still hit hard enough to wobble Ortiz in the fourth before Vic lost his mind. He rocked Cotto in the final round and managed to back off SSM, even after getting hurt. He busted up Guerrero and dropped JMM. He's not a thunderous puncher at the weight, but he hits hard enough to get the attention of fighters more durable than the TS' favorite fighter. :D

    This.

All he needs is enough power to keep people honest. If he can control his space and a bit of your own, and make you pause/ react to his power, that is all he needs. This is boxing. Not punching. Power doesn't mean **** if you don't know how to use it. How you use what power you have is what makes a great boxer. Floyd uses what he has incredibly well.

Power, as far as Floyd is concerned, is f*cking pointless. His skill makes his power more than sufficient, and his defense makes his opponents power a non-issue.

Regardless of his antics/attitude/personality outside the ring, within those 4 ropes, on that magic piece of canvas, he's a f*cking genius. He paints masterpieces in beautiful shades of red, purple, and blue.

(btw, you all have permission to quote that. )

I wonder how much of this is related to his chronic hand injuries? I mean, I'm no boxer, but if I had already ailing hands, I might not try to punch someone as hard as I could too many times. On a related note, has May ever mentioned a particular fight or era, when his hand problems arose?

He's always had soft hands, it really is more of an accumulative thing though. Amateur and pro-boxing at lower weights with 8 oz gloves with the added natural result of amazing speed and near-perfect technique. Man's hands are not made for the striking of objects. I honestly don't think he had soft hands as much as he had normal hands that ultimately broke down over the course of his career. He's a gym rat through and through, so this is not so much just fighting that ruined his hands as much as it is dedication to the craft.

when it comes to the elite fighting each other they need skills, there's no point in having power if you can't land, Mayweather doesn't have a lot but he lands at will
