I'm not going to lie, I used to be a diehard Mayweather fan. I defended him until the end, but now I can't do that anymore. He makes me sick. On the cusp of Cotto vs Gomez, I can't help but think about how once again, us as true boxing fans, are being robbed. That match should be a tune-up preparing us for what people really want to see...Cotto vs Mayweather. That is the biggest fight that can be made right now. Nobody in their right mind should want to see De La Hoya vs Mayweather II. I don't even think casual boxing fans should want to see that pillowfight. The first fight was the worst fight of 2007 considering the massive hype that was surrounding it. It won't sniff the numbers of the first fight and I GUARANTEE you Cotto vs Mayweather would make MORE money. Why? Because everybody is talking about it, and what's to see that ****. They could have Cotto/Mayweather 24/7, and that **** would be just as big as any other fight. Mayweather could take a bigger cut by pleading his case as the bigger star, get a share of the ppv profits, etc. You can't tell me that he wouldn't make the same, if not more money. So why not fight somebody who is a legitimate contender instead of part-time boxer/cross-dresser, if you are supposed to be the best out. Cotto has proven he is the number one contender he doesn't need to beat anymore ****-ass welterweights. Why not take the proper steps to truly cement yourself as an all-time great by taking on such a challenge? Mayweather is on the brink of greatness not an all-time great, but he is blowing it by not fighting everybody. That is why Mayweather IS what's wrong with boxing. He dances around (literally) claiming to be the greatest but he won't fight everybody like true legends do. That is what boxing is all about. He needs to defend/prove his P4P king status. He is a ****ing entertainer without us he wouldn't make a dime so in essence that is his duty. If you are worried about getting hurt or losing a fight, then why the **** are you boxing! That all comes with the territory. If you about making that money, then do that but don't go around comparing yourself to Ali, Leonard, Robinson, etc. They fought upper echleon competition time and time again, you haven't. Mayweather hasn't even had a career-defining match as far as I'm concerned. He didn't dominate De La Hoya, Corrales was a career-launcher, and everybody else is just that everybody else. And don't dare say Hatton because he was vastly overmatched and over-rated. I've been watching boxing ever since I can remember, and I just wish we had more boxers who more concerned about cleaning out their divisions, beating the best, and truly trying to bring the spectacle back to boxing.

Exactly. When that bell rings I am a fan. Outside the ring I ignore him.
He should spend some time with the Mosleys instead of that tool 50 cent

But I bet I can assume exactly what it states, and all i have to say is let Cotto first get past Gomez, build an American following, and bring something to the table. You can't blame Floyd for trying to make as much money as possible.

Would you work 40 hours/week at the Salvation Army for 0$/hour? Probably not.

Would you turn down a big fat bonus from your boss? I doubt it.

If more fighters thought like him, there wouldn't be so many 50 year old broke, brain-damaged, former fighters out there.

There are lots of serious things wrong with boxing. Mayweather going after a bigger payday and easier fight is a minor one. Mayweather-Cotto wasn't gonna happen this year anyway. Cotto's team said they preferred a DLH fight because of the money, and Bob Arum is on better terms with Golden Boy Promotions than he is with Mayweather. DLH and Schaefer said they'd negotiate for a Cotto fight if they couldn't come to terms on a Mayweather rematch. It was either Mayweather-DLH 2 or Cotto-DLH, not Mayweather-Cotto.

Once Mayweather and Cotto represent the largest payday for each other, then the fight will probably happen. It may be hard to make with the bad blood between Mayweather and Arum and the lawsuits, but enough money can always change that.

I just worry that Cotto might lose to Margarito if that fight takes place.

That one statement right there should put to rest every argument stating that Floyd is ducking anyone. He, like every other fighter out there, is looking for the biggest payout with least risk. Not saying that Oscar isn't at all a risk, he can still bang, but you cannot blame Floyd for going for the gold.

No, the real travesty is the fact Cotto is fighting Gomez.

Nicely said.. I couldnt agree with you more.. Hatton was overrated and Mayweather had a tougher time against DLH defense than any other fight.. Mayweather believes he's the best 'cuz he's 39-0 and rich as ****?? He is a problem with boxing.. put on the gloves and fight the fight the fans want to see.. fight top-notch contenders.. fight cotto.. yeah PBF wants money, but thats all he is about.. not boxing.. thats why he goes over to the WWE so vince mcmahon can make him even richer... stop the gay ass wrestling where every fight is fixed.. of course they are gonna' let you win.. not like they are gonna' bring over "supposbly" the best p4p boxer and let him lose..

Ok but Cotto didn't beat De La Hoya already, unlike Mayweather...

I don't have that much of a problem, because it's just a stay busy fight, with Cotto supposed to fight Margarito (if he wins) in the summer.

The 9 month layoff from the Hatton fight to the DLH rematch is actually bothers me the most about it. If it were on the Cinco De Mayo weekend, then I'd figure that Mayweather-Cotto could be made for late 2008.

Since it's September, then we have to wait even longer for it, if it takes place.

I rarely expect a guy to turn down a bigger payday for a smaller payday, as risk/reward is and has always been part of boxing, but the 9 month layoff?

    I hate inactivity in fighters.
